Help selecting a pickguard.

This is the axe I got to put the Red Devils into. (CLASSIC VIBE STRATOCASTER '50S, Sherwood Green Metallic). I'll do a full "NGD" thread once it's all setup and configured.

I want to remove the entire pickguard assembly and store it aside. What pickguard color/style would really set this off? My Red Devils are black. The photo, (from Fender), does a terrible job of showing the proper color. It's a slightly deeper green, with tiny metal flakes. and matching headstock.

So . . . what would look killer in here? Mint green? Pearloid? :)

Single-ply white guard, as it has. Instead of swapping the guard, ditch the black pickups for white ones, and also get white knobs, switch tip, and vibrato arm tip.

But even if you keep the black pickups, I'd just put them in the guitar as is.

As an aside, I really wish Duncan would quit using those "butt shaped" covers, and just offer their rails and such with "normal" rounded ends. I just can't do it! They're SO ugly.

No white. White has been ruining stratocasters for more than 50 years. Ditch all the white stuff and go with black pickguard, black knobs, black pickup covers. (Actually, I'd try my damnedest to colour match the guitar at my local paint shop and then spraypaint the knobs and selector switch tip the same colour as the guitar, just leaving the pickup covers black . . .)

If you have to keep some white in it, go with a black white black 3 ply pickguard.

Re: Help selecting a pickguard.

I would go with a pearloid pickguard. White if you want high contrast, black if you want low contrast or gray if you want some contrast, but not too much. Maple board would make me want to not go too dark, where a rosewood board would make me want to go darker.

I hear ya man, but I really, really don't like the white. And, I want to be able to quik-swap everything back to stock if I upgrade the guitar later.

I like the idea of the gray pearloid. I'll have to see if I can super-impose one onto this with my paint program.

Re: Help selecting a pickguard.

So far, these three have potential. Simulated carbon fiber, White and black pearloid.

Re: Help selecting a pickguard.

Does tort come in other than red-ish? I think red would clash with the green.

Sherwood + tort is a great looking and classic combo. Won't clash at all IMO...especially with black pickups.

I would get dark tort, though (as I would on any instrument).

The only weird thing about it is the maple neck with matching head. I don't think you'll be able to find any examples of that + tort online.

Brushed gold-anodized aluminum is all right too, I guess:

That looks surprisingly cool. So, tort is now on the "possible" list.

Re: Help selecting a pickguard.

I would have never guessed tort, if ItsaBass hadn't shown me that pic. I think that might be the way I'm going to go.

I love tort, I just don't usually like it with maple fretboards. For some reason, the color imbalance bothers me.

Re: Help selecting a pickguard.

IMO -Mirror looks the best if you have black pickups -but white not so much

-also good for blinding select audience members you don't like and self cokenose checks when you are soloing with your teeth.

Re: Help selecting a pickguard.

I’d prob go w/ tort. I like pearlod a lot but no necessarily if the pups aren’t white

Re: Help selecting a pickguard.

Tort it is. And the good news . . . I think I actually have one laying around here somewhere. :scratchch
