HELP!! synyster gates 'custom' invaders

LP's for life

New member
hey there!!!

anyone know WHAT exactly the difference is between a standard invader and the 'custom' invaders used on the schecter synyster custom?? recently i bought the standard version of this guitar and may i say first it is a fine instrument, the rosewood fretboard used on this model as opposed to the ebony on the custom retains the les paul feel and tone, which is what i was after. the one downside to this guitar (yes there is only one!) is the 'duncan designed' invader copies, which are ok i guess.. but produce massive feedback and purely could be better, i'm gonna change them out for the good ol invader but i was thinking of undertaking a project and mimicking the custom invaders... if there isnt too much work involved??

Re: HELP!! synyster gates 'custom' invaders

The custom invaders merely have chrome or nickel plates polepieces- as compared to black polepices on the standard production invader

If you look around at a good hardware store, you should be able to find those silver poles.

I know ACE hardware has hex head bolts that are nearly identical. You can find them in their parts drawers. Although I think they are stainless steel. I am not sure what tonal difference stainless steel poles would have?

Re: HELP!! synyster gates 'custom' invaders

Well if it was good quality stainless - it wouldn't work as stainless steel can't be magnetised.

so basically the tone wouldn't be any different and you'd be going out of your way to bite his steez.

which i mean that's cool if you really wanna bite his steez or whatever but i'd just get a green and purple invader, personally. that'd look cool.

If you want that guitar to sound good, just ditch the Invader idea altogether.

Install a Custom/Jazz set

Re: HELP!! synyster gates 'custom' invaders

get what you guys mean thanks for the help.
not after sucking his ass really... i also use a les paul with 2 59's which produces an epic sound at high gain (sometimes old school is best) this is purely cos i dont wanna ruin the look of the instrument which is ****ing fantastic as it is.. i just wanna get those crappy duncan designed things out of it cos they squeal so **** much.

Re: HELP!! synyster gates 'custom' invaders

i had an invader with the chrome/nickel hex screws. i wanted something different than all black. i just emailed SD about them and they were nice enough to just send me a set.

DO you have that email address you used? I tried to email them (twice) using the one on the website but they haven't replied to either.

Re: HELP!! synyster gates 'custom' invaders

Polepieces must be magnetic -- in the sense that it is attracted to a magnet, can be picked up by a magnet. Stainless steel is worthless as a polepiece. You could try to pick one up with one of those giant electromagnets at the junkyard all day and it wouldn't move. Might as well use wood for polepieces.

So my advice is if you want to try out some new-look or whatever polepieces from a hardware store, take a magnet with you to test them.

Re: HELP!! synyster gates 'custom' invaders

Stainless is not necessarily non-magnetic. Nonrusting steels are a mixture of iron, chrome and other materials which influences the temperature at which they become magnetic. If this temperature is reached at living room levels you call it magentic. If you need to heat the steel mixure to - lets say - red hot, you would call it non-magnetic.
