Help with HSH wiring

Hello everyone!

I'll cut right to the chase.

I decided to mod an old and much loved Yamaha Pacifica. I'd installed just a single humbucker, single volume and that was that, but, having sold my strat, I want to have a guitar that can kinda-sorta replicate the strat... "thing". Queue the modworthy pacifica.

Rummaging through the parts bin, I found an old epi humbucker I converted from two to four conductor and a single coil from the mid position of an old Ibanez to compliment the duncan designed detonator (I think, the invader knockoff).

To go with that, I have an old blade 5-way, a LP 3-way and some pots, most 500k, one or two 250k.

What I'd LOVE to (be able to) do -but can't- with these existing parts: Have the LP switch function as series/parallel/split, but that's impossible, as it can only function as a series/split or parallel/split, from what little I know.

Apart from that, you guys come in. Should I wire two 500k pots for each humbucker as spin-a-splits and forget about parallel (which I do really like but find it sounds quite similar to split) or forget about series altogether and just use the LP switch to have parallel/split?

And would it be possible to have the LP 3-way as a master parallel/split for both humbuckers?
If not, I suppose the only way would be to have a pot for a spin-a-split and use the LP 3-way for parallel split.

Obviously, the middle SC I'll just leave as is.

Many, many thanks in advance!

Have the LP switch function as series/parallel/split, but that's impossible . . .

Not exactly impossible, if you're a little "handy". I've done this before. (I shoulda took pics.) I just took a piece of hobby store aluminum sheet, and cut it and bent it to hold a micro-switch just so that the LP switch would activate it in one position. It mounted to the existing screws. It was a little work, but kinda fun if you're into that kind of thing.

Just a thought.

Re: Help with HSH wiring

That's brilliant! I don't, however, have a micro switch handy and I'd like to use whatever I've got on hand, since my attemps to find mini DPDT's were unfruitful!

I do, however, need some help with the wiring because I find myself perplexed. I wanna do it as follows:

Bridge pickup->parallel/split with the LP 3-way switch
Neck pickup->spin-a-split, but with the pickup wired in parallel, so basically, parallel/split (I don't know if that makes sense...)
Middle SC I suppose would go straight to the 5-way blade
And finally, one master volume to output jack
No tone in the circuit

I honestly have no idea where to start with this so I'd immensely appreciate the help!

Re: Help with HSH wiring

I'll take a shot at it, if no one else gets to it, but I've got one ahead of you, and I move kinda sloooww these days. :)

Re: Help with HSH wiring

Um, quick thought. Would it be possible to have the split at the inbetween positions of the five-way? As in, position 2 activating one coil of the bridge HB and the middle SC and position 4 one coil of the neck HB and middle SC.

Re: Help with HSH wiring

You'd probably need a "superswitch" for that. But let me check it out before I say for sure.

Re: Help with HSH wiring

Hmm, I do think it's possible with a normal five-way, most Ibanez guitars come with this, I believe. I suppose this is the most "painless" way to achieve what I'm going for-or at least the next best thing, since I can't really do series/parallel/split without a switch. I also found this diagram:

Which seems to reinforce my suspicion. However, I don't exactly get it, to be honest, considering my wires are all over the place, colour-wise and I don't have the faintest idea whether such a wiring would be possible with the pickups permanently in parallel. As in, having the five way like so:

bridge (parallel)
bridge (split)+middle
middle
middle+neck (split)
neck (parallel)
