Davey

Goliath of Tone
so, i finaly got the mounting ring and i moved on to a new pickguard design

ditching the old one permanently... i made two for now, cos i ran out of cardboard to experiment and this is what i came up with:

this is the old one this axe was a SG Jr with a p-90 dogear cover so this is what it came with, after years i found it dull so i made this one for a change.. looks ugly, but i liked it hehe

design 1 a little bit of a stratlike shape thingy. looks ok, but i find it a little weird. the part between the pups could need more of an artistic shape

design 2
2nd one, after not liking the butt end of the D1, i changed it to a more of a spiky tail like thing (the curve cant be seen very well on the pic, but it's a little bit .. curvier =P lol the bit 'tween the pups is better shaped also. 8note the cut at the bridge.. not intended to look like that. was a bit of an oops, cut too much there

the horn edge is a bit pointier than the one on the picture also, but i squished em both a bit lol

so, what do you guys think? the scratchplate is going to be made out of diamond plate (wanted to do a mirror, but noone wants to cut something like that)

vote away and post your opinions

Re: help with pickguard

Davey, I prefer the subtlety of the first one... it doesn't overcrowd things IMO.

Nice guitar too.

Sorry, to derail this thread, but:
Bee, jump on to MS Messenger. I have something to tell ya! :)

Re: help with pickguard

I'm with TO. You can probably find mirror pickguard stock and route your own pattern. I like #1 the best.

Re: help with pickguard

I always liked the SG Custom pickguard. This is an SG-X/SG-Z pickguard, I think it would be cool to do some cutting on this one!

Re: help with pickguard

ehh.....both seem too stratty to me. id tweak the shape of the original some more

Re: help with pickguard

I've never owned an SG, so is there a cavity to cover up that makes a guard necessary? I think it would look lean and mean with none at all. Never much liked pickguards on anything other that strat for some reason.

Re: help with pickguard

yea, there's lots to cover up actually..
1 hole from the previous dogear cover it had.
some dremel tool mishaps
1 'canal' where the neck pups wire goes through (originaly it had only a p-90 in the bridge)
a lot of scratches
plus there would be holes left of the old pickguard.

nothing a good luthier couldnt fix, but there's none in the vicinity of 300 kilometers that i'd trust my gutiar with

so, a new pickguard is the only option.

i'm kind of leaning more to the #2 design with a little tweak here and there
