Help With Pickup Identification

Hello All,

I picked a Fender Jaguar Bass up in a trade recently. It's a combination of two different Fender Jag basses, which I have identified, but I am sure that one of the pickups is not original. It looks to me to be a Quarter Pounder P-Bass pickup but I am not 100% sure because the pickup casing doesn't say Seymour Duncan.

Thank you for reading my post.

Re: Help With Pickup Identification

That could be a Quarter Pound, but I'd need to see the underside to be sure. Those covers don't look quite right, but I suppose it's possibly they're not original.

Re: Help With Pickup Identification

If the slugs are 1/4" in diameter, they should be QPs. I believe that's where they get the name. If they're not, then I'd suspect they're not. Are QP housings gloss black like that? I've seen that level of glossiness on import pickups, but none of my bought-new Duncans were ever that shiny.

Most pickup manufacturers put a logo on top, so unless you see scraping marks, it's a safe bet they're the stock pickups. If it's an import bass, I'd have serious doubts anyone put Shop Floor Custom or even Custom Shop pickups in it without the logo.

I just want to update everyone about the P pickup. I took the bass to my guitar tech for a setup and to have some fret work done and I asked him to check into the pickup. He was able to verify that the pickup is indeed a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder. When I mentioned that the pickup was missing the usual markings, he told me that it could have come from a Roger Waters Precision Bass because some of those pickups had no visible markings on them. The bass guitar was basically a combination of two Fender Jaguar basses so it wouldn't be a stretch to have included parts from a third bass.

Thank you to everyone who helped me with this!
