Help with rewiring

I am about to have a go at my first rewiring project. I have been practising my soldering on odd bits of metal and wire and am just about to order 3 500k CTS pots (2 log and one linear) , a linear push pull and some orange drop caps ,for a tone control (033) and treble bleeds (001)for the vol pots. I understand that if I get split shafts my existing metric knobs will fit. By the standards of the high tech wiring suggestions found elsewhere on this site my plans are fairly modest .but I would welcome all assistance and advice especially on my proposed shopping list.

My guitar currently has 2 vol pots and 2 dial a taps (please refer to my earlier post today for more details of guitar). I want to upgrade the pots and caps.

It is my intention to replace what was the neck p u dial a tap with a master tone control obviously wired after the three way switch . The pot will be modified to give a no load setting in the 10 position so as not to lose the guitars “open ” sound which I like.

What was the bridge p u dial a tap will be replaced with a push pull. The pot on this will be a dial a tap for both pups at the same time. The coils I am planning to cut are the bridgemost on the bridge and the neckmost on the neck leaving the inner ones. . I am right in thinking that the pot on the push pull can be wired to simultaneously dial a tap on the bridge and neck pups.. The push pull will be Arties series/ parallel wiring option from the Jimmy Page schematic. Advice please.

.

Re: Help with rewiring

My question would be, how would the dial-a-tap work if both pups were not on? I'd have to look at the schematic. You might be best using a stereo pot if that's the way you want it. The problem would be finding one.

Re: Help with rewiring

Hi Twanger Welcome to the forum. Its good that you have a guitar you are happy with.

Firstly I have to confess that I am a relative newcomer to guitar electrics myself. However I can see no reason why the simultaneous coil cut should not work, at least in the fully wound off position, in all pick up selection modes. After all, all you are doing is grounding out the slug coils. No doubt, Artie who is something of an expert on dial a taps will take me to task if I am completely off the mark.
I like your simple idea of using a single push pull to both do the coil cuts and give the series / parallel option or are you following a schematic diagram you have found?

Good luck with your project. Your shopping list sounds more or less right although you might also need some 22 guage coloured wire. If you have problems with your project, there are a lot of cool people on this forum who can probably help you get you back on track.

Re: Help with rewiring

Really appreciate your reply Gstring. Was somewhat disappointed re feedback until your response. The wiring idea I dreamt up myself based on what the guitar had before..two dıal a taps and my wish to get in a tone pot. If it does not work as I think ıt will I will just abandon the tone and revert to two dıal a taps.
