Help with Series/Parallel wiring!

Hi guys, I'm attempting to wire 3 humbuckers on a strat into some push pull pots with DPDT switches. Is anyone able to show a correct DPDT diagram? I've seen many online, but some show a ground from the top right lug on the DPDT to the right lug on the potentiometer. Others don't. I'm running with a 5 way blade, one volume, and two tones. I thought I had the wiring all figured out, but I cant find consistency in DPDT diagrams. Thanks a million.

Re: Help with Series/Parallel wiring!

Hey Brandon I suggest this wiring, aside from repairing guitars as a hobby when I get bored my background is multimedia (graphic design and video editing mostly), usually anyone on here who needs a custom diagram drawn I can do it in the old seymour duncan format when I have time. The good news is I found something similar to what you're after on my computer so I didn't even have to open photoshop. Evey time I do sad pumpkins who comb through replied threads and have nothing better to do than pick measure which shade of black I use.

Back onto the wiring. Some notes before seeing the diagram.
Since you mentioned humbuckers
use 500k pots instead
the right capacitor value you prefer - 0.022uf (22nf) to 0.47uf (47nf) are the two most popular to try - 22nf is slightly brighter even at 10 (fully off)
aside from that do everything the same

now since you're using humbuckers. Assuming they are 4 wire pickups. Tape the red/white (Seymour Duncan color code) off and this will work and still give you some room to add extra mods. Don has done a lot of great work on youtube.

Special thanks to Don Breja for this

How would this work with 4 wire Hot rails on a DPDT 3 way?

Re: Help with Series/Parallel wiring!

Here's the basic series/parallel wiring for a DPDT p/p pot. You say you have 3 humbuckers so I assume you want a separate p/p for each. Just wire each pup to the DPDT as in the diagram with the hot output wire going to its respective lug on the switch.

The wire that goes from the DPDT to ground is essential. It (they) can just be soldered to the back of a pot

You must have your switch positions labeled backwards...bridge pup is connected to switch position 1 and neck pup is connected to switch position 5.

Thanks GuitarDoc. This is perfect. It is what I thought, I already have the mini toggles, might as well use them in the build.:wink:
