Want to upgrade pickups in my epi les paul (since the gibson's gone). Searching for a clean tone with the ability to get to a southern rock blues sound. Tired of the digital sound. looking for vintage tone. Epi les paul standard, peavy valveking 112. Please help

Re: help with the upgrade selection

I had an Epi LP and loved the A2P in both positions. I ran a PG in both slots too. It's the same thing just more presence and grit.

If you want vintage tone and have a VK I'd say try the PG set. It will give you some rudeness those 6L6's might not have.

Re: help with the upgrade selection

Thank you. Pg meaning pearly gates I assume. sorry not educated on the abbreviations. Are the prails an option for what Im looking for?

Re: help with the upgrade selection

Prails are an option, but as soon as you say you want southern blues most people will think of the pearly gates.

Re: help with the upgrade selection

Probably the two most popular PAF sets for LP's here are '59's & PG's. Both give great vintage LP tones. Some of us use two 250K's on the bridge to take off a little treble & make the mids more prominent (with 500K's on the neck for clarity).

Re: help with the upgrade selection

ive never heard an epi les paul with duncan 59's that didnt sound great

+1

Alternatively, check out Bareknuckle Pickups Stormy Monday humbuckers. (Think Duane Allman & Dickey Betts.) These should take you EXACTLY where you aim to go. :D

Re: help with the upgrade selection

Bridge: '59 or Custom 5 if you want a little more "hot"
Neck: Pearly Gates or maybe A2P
