all riight first off thanks to all that helped me out by your past posts on blackout wiring i just installed a set in my ibanez art series look and sound awsome but next project i have is my son talked me into a jackson v and i love it but bein i grew up in the 70 and 80s i am looking for that original metal tone hard to explain but it is a signature tone any help where to start at on pick up combos?

Re: help with tone

definitely the Super Distortion. Its the go to 70s/80s hard rock/metal pickup. Also, the DiMarzio PAF Pro makes a good complement to it. And I'm not just saying that cuz I have one. lol Apparently Randy Rhoads at one point used that combo.

Re: help with tone

thanks with the right amount of tweakin can you get pretty dark with them and do the accept a occasional drop tuning

Re: help with tone

The super distortion sounds pretty thick with drop D and the bass is tight enough. I used one in a cheaper ibanez for a while several years ago and liked it.

Re: help with tone

Jackson V! Assuming it is and alder body with maple neck I would go with the seymour duncan JB/JAZZ combo. They both great for drop tunings too.

Re: help with tone

The JB would kick righteous ass in that guitar, but would sound nothing like the tone the OP wants.
