help with vox valvetronix head

I just got it yesterday and so far i really like it. but have a question for anyone that owns one. did any of your presents have any hissing moises? it only does it on 2 or 3 of them so far havent noticed it on the others. but it is annoying. It is on 1 setting with high gain and one setting with medium. when i hit a chord or not theres hissing in the background and after i stop the chord or note from ringing its fades out. It may not be anything but I'm trying to make sure. also it doesnt do it when i have it in manual mode and use the high gain settings. any info you can give me will help otu a lot.

I tried several versions of the valvetronix in my home for a several days each time.

The 120 watt head hissed like a snake. I ended up sending it back. I suspect it was the 12AX7 tubes, but I cannot confirm that as it was trouble to attempt a change out.

Try another one. Not all of them hiss.

thanks for the input. i have the 60 watt version. I'm still getting used to this digital stuff. I think i figured out the problem its only doing it on the presets using a overdriven amp and the od pedal together. but i may either try to change tubes or take it back and exchange it if that doesnt work

For what it's worth, I abandoned the presets pretty quickly. I just went manual mode and dialed in my tone. Tons of stellar tones in that amp.

The high gain presets hiss....Are you using the built in noise gate? High gain Marshalls hiss also...You're adding gain,gain is also noise?

For what it's worth, I abandoned the presets pretty quickly. I just went manual mode and dialed in my tone. Tons of stellar tones in that amp.

I use manual mode to create a preset and then I save it into a permanent preset spot...If it turns out great,it's worth saving...

It sounds like your noisegate is set at a level that's cutting in and out.

I don't have the amp in front of me, but read the manual on the noise gate.
You hold down a button and turn a knob clockwise to raise it, and counterclockwise to shut it off. When it's off, you highgain patches will have more hiss, but that's the case with most highgain SS amps. Get used to using the gate on the Recto patch.

thanks everyone I gave up on the presets myself i messed around with it more today and got some tones i like alot better than the ones they had. I can already tell i'm going to have alot of fun with this amp.

That head sounds best on a 4-12 cab, IMO. It fattens it up nicely.
The presets are a joke. You can also mess around with the variable wattage on the back, by turning it lower, then cranking everything on the top. I use the 3 main OD models to shape the tone of nearly every amp model. They allow you to really dial in certain tones. The feature that nobody mentions but I use a LOT is the built in tuner. That thing spoils me.....not having to unplug and use a tuner.

I use my tube amps in rehearsal/gig situations, but the Valvetronix is the best home practice setup you could have. It sounds better than the Flextones, and is easier to navigate than the Vetta.......Amazing that the Vetta cost 3 times as much and doesn't sound 3 times better.

I have a Peterson Virtual Strobe tuner that I use and so I haven't used the one in my Vox....I've now used my Vox more than a few times at band practices and it has been much better each time...The trick was to set it at 30 watts and crank things up through the 4x12 cab..I'll be gigging with it out doors on the 16th of this month and I feel it'll sound great..

Yep....You have to twist knobs,read the manual through a few times and experiment...I've been getting some great tone out of this amp..Plus it is fun to tweak and learn about what the different amp models sound like and how the controls effect the models differently...

You will have to use the noise gate on those high gain presets.It's pretty much the nature of the beast with alot of gain,especially if you're using a strat with single coils.

so far i am really liking the blackface 2x12 model the best with alittle reverb. I am also running mine at 30 watts and running it through a 4x12 cab. i need to get a better cab though or change out the speakers in mine. i was short on cash and needed one so i got one of the behringer cab's with the jensen speakers. for the money it's not a bad cab i compared it to some of the cheaper marshall cabs the store had and it blew them away. I'm gonna buy one of the foot controllers when i get the money. i figure it will make things easier.
