Hi Bobkat From Down Under(Australia) Here.
Can Anyone Help Me.
My Road Axe Is A Ibanez Rg 570.
It Has The Shop Pickups Still In It.
They Are To Bassy & Buzzy On Distortion.
And Way To Bassy On Clean.
We Play The Usual Pub/Club Stuff,
From - Tracy Chapman to Gary Moore to Creedence to
Savage Garden to Santana,etc.
So I am For Good Pickups For A Rock/Blues Type Tone.
Thanks For Any Advice, This Is My First Thread.
Regards
Bobkat

Re: Help

g'day bobkat and welcome to the forum!

from your description, i would say the a2p neck and cc bridge. if budget is not an issue, seth neck will complement nicely with the cc bridge. the cc is a very mid focus pup with soft lows and rounded highs. a2p has a sweet voice and it is very balance in the neck.

also, don't forget the amp, which imo is the most important factor in the tone equation. is yours a mids intensive amp or otherwise? in most cases, some adjustment with the eq on a good amp will help.

Re: Help

again, welcome. dani just hit my favorite les paul combo , the A2P neck and a CC in the bridge. THe CC has very tamed highs, so if you're a lover of trebly bridge pups, this one will not be for you.

If you really want to catch that Duane Allman "Live at Fillmore" tone, just slap a set of Seths in there. For most of the artists you mentioned, you'd be fine with either set. I really can't comment on Savage Garden though.

Now, I just went back and read that you're using an RG and I really can't comment on that because I've not compared one to a les paul.

Hahahaha :p

Your RG is made out of basswood right, with rosewood fingerboard?

Perhaps, as someone has suggested, your amp is bass oriented, hence getting too much of a bassy sound.

For rock and blues, I suggest you look in the vault, reading these particular topics.
