Well, guys, my budget will be willing to pay just a little over 1100$ if it's a combo (also depending how many speakers in that thar cabinet.)

The clean I want is plinky Fender style.

If I do go down the OD Pedal + Clean amp route, what are some good combinations of pedals and amps?

The distortion I want has to be nicely saturated and smooth, but articulate enough to go through many, MANY pedals (like envelope filter, reverb, heavy EQ'ing) and still come out with clarity and my physical picking dynamics still in tact.

For that price range, I'd recommend getting a good clean Fender like the Twin or (if you want slight breakup at higher volumes) a Super Reverb and add pedals to taste. There are plenty of good lead pedals out there these days, so it wouldn't take too much to get some quality sounds out of that setup. On the cheap, the Xotic BB Preamp gets some pretty killer lead tones. If you're willing to spend the cash, nothing will get you Pink Floyd like the Peter Cornish SS-2 Soft Sustain pedal, but bear in mind that it's one expensive pedal (you'd be looking at around $500 for it used).

I'd recommend the Vibroverb/Vibroking, but clean headroom sounds important, so that automatically rules it out.

I would think the lonestar would be one to try (me personally would go for lonestar special but you wanted more fender like cleans so the lonestar classic seems the one) also maybe the super sonic amps or some vintage fender (or clones) and some pedals.

Most of the Rivera offerings are pretty gnarly... about as close I've ever found to a having a Marshall & a Fender in the same box without spending "boo-teek" money.

Paul used to work at Fender too way back in the day...

Boogie cleans are kinda midrangy for my tastes...not very 'fender-like' IMO.

Something completely different.
Try a Fender Champ, lots of clean headroom and it would overdrive well with a pedal, The 6 inch speaker would mic good for gigs or recording. They sound superb, Great sound. Great price at 190..
You and I must have a very different interpretation of "clean headroom".

That was my thought as well.
What are the prices on those Rivera's?
Unfortunately, the only new Riveras in your price range are the Clubster and Pubster models--relatively stripped down models. If you're willing to go used, your options are considerably broader.

I played a hiwatt mk2 studio/stage 2x12 combo at a local guitar shop recently and i was very impressed. Definately one of my favorite amps. You can switch between 20 or 40 watts coming from el84s. the cleans are really good and it has a push/pull gain boost to get the gilmourish overdrive. The downside is that it is very expensive (about 3k) and hard to find a store that has one.

I also like the fender supersonic combo. The first channel has the cool blackface cleans as well as the jazzy/blusey bassman stuff. the second channel is like the mesa dual cascading gain, very creamy. The upside is that it is roughly a third the price of a hiwatt and it can be found at most any guitar center. Another one of my favorites.
