Here it is: my Custom Gibson 76 Explorer

Hey guys!

I wasn't here at the board for a while... But now I'm here again to present my modified Gibson '76 Explorer.

It is a 2006 model which I modded last year with a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates and a SH 14 Custom 5 and later a black pickguard.

In the night from the 30th September to the 1st October she stayed in the rehearsal room in her case - this night some f***in' a**holes were breakin' into our rehearsal room, the 2 bass guitars are broken to a lot of pieces, a neck is missing completely, the drumset, a mic and the whole mixer broken... My Gibson and the LP copy of the other guitarist stolen...

To make it short, the police located the two guitars a few days later, the LP broken because it was in a gigbag, my Explorer case wasn't opened. The Explorer was rusted as hell and looked like 30 years old because this one night it rained a lot.

My assurance payed the repair costs and so I did a few of mods which I wasn't able to do because of the lack of money :headbang:

- Schaller locking tuners
- a Tone Pros tune-o-matic and bridge
- push-pull-pots for coilsplit
- no tone-pot (two volumes, the bridge-vol is at the ex-tone)
- toggle at the place of the former neck-volume
- totally shielded electronics
- new black pickguard without toggle-hole
- graphite-carbon nut
- fret-polish and fingerboard oiling

That's just a crappy pic with my mobilephone cam, I will take some better ones later, but not today, because I'm going to see Immortal, Sodom and some other great bands today :headbang:

So, have a nice day!

Greetings from Germany, Edlennon

Glad you got it back in one piece... looks real cool in black.... infact it look quite mean!

Re: Here it is: my Custom Gibson 76 Explorer

I wanted a white one, too, but I don't like this Gibson vintage white, but now, I like my all black one more :cool2:

Re: Here it is: my Custom Gibson 76 Explorer

thats awesome. i also have a PG in my explorer (which reminds me, gotta update my sig) and it kicks ass

Re: Here it is: my Custom Gibson 76 Explorer

Yeah, great sounding pickup with this guitar, it's just a killer... I play in some different bands, from Blues to Black Metal, it fits for everything, even more with the coil split now.
And once more thanks to the board members, one year ago they advised me to go with the C5, awesome pickup! :headbang:

are you using the stock 300k volume pots, or did you switch up to 500?

Nice guitar, the best-looking Explorer I've seen. Like your choice of a C5 too. Well done.

To be honest, I don't know exactly which push-pull-pots my luthier used, he said something bout massive american ones, but I think that these are 300k, too.

I've done my best to take some pictures:

The fingerboard looks brighter than it really is...

Enjoy it!

Oh my goodness, played it yesterday through the 1978 Peavey Deuce combo of a friend, the 3rd guitar player of my bluesrock-band, what a sound!!! Clean like heaven and really great crunch sound, without any pedals, just straight to the amp, I need new shorts! :D
I need such an amp when I have money...

Love those guitars! Had one in cherry a few years ago that I stupidly sold.

Re: Here it is: my Custom Gibson 76 Explorer

I had one of those a while back, and even with the stock 496 neck pup it had a magical warm sound.

I like the mods you've done to it, that's pretty neat. Definitely improves the versatility of an already cool instrument.
