Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

Tele eats the SG.

SG's look cool, but I still haven't been able to get 'a' sound out one of them. I've owned about 4 from '67 to late '90s.

Angus had a pretty cool sound, for AC/DC type of sounds, Iommi had cool rhythm tones, Townsend also had some b!tchin ringing chords with SG's so they can sound decent in the right hands, but overall the Tele OWNS the SG, imo.

Teles are AWESOME, but it must a classic Tele.

I still want a sg, but I have 3 teles, whats that tell you? Mine have h/b's though. I also would like to build a equire for a broadcaster p/u I have lying around.

Why do you have to have an SG? If you don't mind me asking.

They fit me well. The neck sits way out there and felt fat to me. (perfect) I had a epi g-400 once and loved it. I will have another.
(I sold it to get a bass) I wish I had'nt.

Tele. I can make a tele sound almost like a Gibson just by the way I play it. iI've never been able to get a good twang tone out of a SG, besides, the SG feels fragile while the Tele is pretty much the AK of guitars.

Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

I have neither and to be frank, I never really felt like missing much (that is for my tastes, that's not to say that there aren't people that get great tones out of both).

If I had top choose between the two though, Tele.
I could always make it the way I like my guitars (HSS or HH and with a trem. At least it's already 25.5")

Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

I hate SGs - too small feeling, too thin, not my cup o tea soundwise.

The tele is the one I'm missing from the big four IMO

Tele
LP
Strat
335

I love teles, I really want to build a dream tele in the future!

Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

I'd like to own a couple of SG's

+1. I have a few SG's, and won't let a Tele in the door. SG's have the ultimate neck access, warmer crunchier tones, better controls, block inlays, and a beautiful, elegant look, whereas Tele's in the words of guitar guru George Gruhn: "Look like a high school shop project." They were designed strictly to be cheap to produce (and look it). Yes, some players do truly amazing things with Tele's, but the fact remains, they're rough, crude instruments that horrified the public in the early 1950's by setting a new low in standards of luthiership (honest).

A sleek, sexy cherry SG or a hack job mustard yellow Tele? No comparison.

I much prefer SGs. Teles do nothing for me in terms of tone, aesthetics, or playability. SGs have everything I've come to like in a guitar: short scale, mahogany + humbucker tones, and great upper-fret access. Teles are about as far from my ideal as it's possible to get, lol. That said, people do make some great music with teles, and my tastes are no more "right" than anyone else's :)

Telecaster --- all luthiery aside, blueman, they just straight up get the job done.

You gotta have a Telecaster to get Tele tone.

There is no "SG tone."

(Yeah, I said it)
