song is in stereo. mix is much better this way (I... think :lmao:)

enjoy!!

edit: any tips on how to set Cymbals in terms of volume? I have no idea how to make it sound natural. it's like theyre either too loud or too quiet...

Sounds good overall.

Try some selective EQ on the higher frequencies; Listening to it, a bit of cut
on the Ride/Crash. EQ is adding/subtracting Freq.DB level = Vol.

Re: Here we go

IMO, the cymbals (including hi-hats) are too tizzy. GV has already suggested high frequency EQ cut. Alternatively, try different microphones next time.

If you want the cymbals to be more noticable but less bright, try backing off the rhythm guitars a tiny bit. (These instruments are competing for similar portions of the overall frequency spectrum.)

If you have multi-band compression, isolate the cymbal frequency band and compress/limit the *** out of it. This might cure the level problems.

As always, I would like to feel more kick drum impact and bass guitar. Reducing the rhythm guitar(s) would achieve this.

Finally, for maximum hit record potential, I would double the intro lead guitar figure with analogue monosynth. Specifically, ARP Oddysey or accurate clone.

Noted.

Analogue Monosynth? :D

Yup. Use it to double the guitar part but mix it lower than the guitar.

Think of the effect that Hendrix got on "Crosstown Traffic" by doubling his fuzz guitar with comb and paper OR that David Gilmour got on "There's No Way Out Of Here" (from his first solo album) by blending guitar and harmonica.

Another option is to cut and paste the lead guitar intro figure onto another track. Process the duplicate track through a filter plug-in. Mix in to taste.

Re: Here we go

like a square or sawtooth lead or something. Are these machine drums or acoustic?

Yeah, sounds like a distorted sawtooth.

the drums are machine. samples I got from a friend's studio, as well as online.

got you. ill try this later and get back.

Re: Here we go

For the cymbals level listen carefully to good mixes in the genre that you do. Drum mixing varies so much from genre to genre.

If you don't know how to do this already you can isolate the cymbals in your mixer and boost the eq 12 dbs then sweep through the frequency bands to find anything that's nasal, honky, annoying etc. When you find the offending frequency then you can apply a cut to that band and lower the dbs back down for the eq.

Re: Here we go

awesome dude! Im impressed. Id give the bassdrum more umph - maybe boost low frequencies. good pop punk stuff.

thanks man. dude I checked out Earth Alliance. I didn't know you played bass!! :smack:

Nice thunderbird. am i detecting a Pantera influence?

Re: Here we go

cool brutha! Thanks. Bass is pretty fun, and I get alot of gigs that way. I like to play live. I was listening to Pantera when I was your age for sure! I got the Pantera tab for Southern Trendkill when that album came out.

Re: Here we go

Here's something else you could try. although it's a bit more work.

mix just the drum levels so they sound as awesome as possible. Also consider panning the cymbals and toms a bit so the whole drum kit sounds more 3D. Then apply a very light room reverb to the whole kit. That reverb will definitely tame some of those higher frequencies while giving the kit a cohesive sound.

Then bring back the guitars, bass vox etc. and mix all of those according to the drum mix.

I'll try that out. Since this is usually the kind of recording I make just for friends and family, I usually just add some master reverb at the end, but I see what you mean. thanks.

Re: Here we go

It sounds good. IMO take opinions with a grain of salt. It sounds good and I like the way the guitars stand out in the mix. If it sounds good to you then you're already on the right track. It's a good song.

So tell me did you use your Prosonic or Supersonic or other amp?
