Does anybody know what pickups would have been in Dickey Betts guitar from the song One Way Out. I believe he has the first solo. That is like the Holy Grail of Les Paul tone to my ears.

Re: Here's a weird question...

back in the day it was a gibson paf in goldie his 1957 les paul gold top, he also used an sg but that also had gibson paf's and that was pretty early on. the pups in goldie went bad a while ago and he put some duncan paf copy in there. not sure if they are antiquitys or seths or what but they are duncans. he uses the neck pup most of the time. he played the same guitar for years until the early 90's when he switched to a prs mccarty with pearly gates pups. now he uses his signature gibson les pauls with 57 classics

Yeah, that is the song. Thanks for the info.

Re: Here's a weird question...

You know, I'd probably go for an A2P for that sound. The guitar I'm most likely to play Allmans on is an EPI with a PG/CC combo. I use the PG and roll the tone back. The guitar that I have that naturally sounds the most like that tone to me is my 79 T-top in the the neck.
