Here's What Happens When You Use The Wrong AC Adapter!

This is a DS1 circuit board I Just received.....Not real bad, easily repaired, but not real pretty... :newangel:

Re: Here's What Happens When You Use The Wrong AC Adapter!

What did he use? I never thought it made any difference as long as the specs of the adaptor were the same as the Boss one.

Re: Here's What Happens When You Use The Wrong AC Adapter!

OUCH... oh man I should show this to the guys at GC. When I worked there custys was ALWAYS bitching and moaning about having to buy the right adapter for the pedal... "why can't I get the $10 instead of the $25 one?"

Because thats not the right one and if you don't THIS is gonna happen, dumbo!!!

I recommend we place this in the vault, just for pic reference!!

Re: Here's What Happens When You Use The Wrong AC Adapter!

Does this mean it's a bad idea to daisy chain all of my pedals thru the 220 circuit of my washer/drier? I thought I was just getting a power boost.

I'm not positive that it was an adapter that spiked the pedal? Could have been a power surge also and it's no one's fault unless the adapter was a pretty good amount of voltage above 9 volts...Not trying to make anyone look bad,but thought I'd just pass on some info to be careful...That's all..

Re: Here's What Happens When You Use The Wrong AC Adapter!

maybe he used some kind of Tim Allen adapter :D

Oh yes...The Home Improvement Adapter.. :)

I have it all fixed and all tweaked out now, sounds heavenly....Love these DS1s...

Re: Here's What Happens When You Use The Wrong AC Adapter!

Well i for one use the 9V DC adapter that came with the Korg for my boss pedal!!

Re: Here's What Happens When You Use The Wrong AC Adapter!

I honestly dunno what im looking for...

Oh man things are so gonna go tits up when i try and swap pups myself for the first time.. :laugh2:

Re: Here's What Happens When You Use The Wrong AC Adapter!

I thought John you had made the error in choosing the wrong adaptor (at least thats what I got from the title of this thread) and thought you goofed :smack: and toasted one of your pedals!!

I use a powertrain for most of my pedals and so I had better check to see if all of my pedals are still working and also that new "Vai Ventilator fan pedal" which is also daisy-chained in there :saeek:

That's the point, the person apparently used the wrong voltage and or polarity ... regulated or non-regulated will cause noise problems with digital pedals (may cause I should say). The *OLD* ACA series are not the same as the new ACA series, those are 9V.The older ACA pedals also had a resistor to knock down the voltage of the old adaptors (which were around 12.5V or so), which is why if you use an old ACA pedal with a PSA adaptor it doesn't get enough voltage. And an old ACA will be to much for any of the newer pedals designed to run off the PSA adaptors (which are regualted BTW).
The new a ACA series are rated at 9Vdc @300mA non-regulated, the PSA series is rated at 9.6Vdc @ 200mA Regulated pin polarities are the same (center negative, outer positive). The OLD ACA series pedals must have the resistor and in some cases one of the diodes bypassed to work properly off a PSA series adaptor. Just a side note.
The reason for that 1n4001 to 1n4004 power diode is to protect the unit from a reverse polarity adaptor being used, it also may offer some protection from over voltage ...I'd have to research that to be sure.

Make sure the voltage, polarity, are the same, and that it can take the current draw required by the pedal ... you can burn up and adaptor, or toast a pedal, if the voltage is higher it may work okay for a while, but still may burn something up long term. Also if it wants regulated power, that's what it wants (some adaptors output ac and not dc, so that has to be checked as well).

Norman...hello buddy....I Know not to do these kinds of things actually..I use adapters but I only buy the better quality Boss or an Ibanez 9 volt adapter for my pedals...
