Heritage Guitars

Anyone have any thoughts on Heritage Guitars? Do you like them? What pup's do they typically use?

Thanks!

Re: Heritage Guitars

I think you will find the general consensus here to be that they are well made, quality instruments. Produced the way Gibson used to make instruments back in the "good old days." Attention to detail and historical accuracy are outstanding. The use a variety of pickups, primarily Duncan 59's and some other Duncan offerings. I think I've seen them with some other manufacturers pickups installed also, but I'm not an expert on what they offer.

Several guys around here own more than a few, and I never hear anything but good things about them. I would love to own one someday.

Re: Heritage Guitars

I've always wanted to try one myself and compare it to a USA Gibson, to see what all this "the way they used to" fuss is about. Old ways are not always the best ways, in my experience.

That said, I've also only heard good things about them, along with the same old "the way they used to make things back when the world was in black and white and Russia was the enemy" arguments, but never anything that could be boiled down to science fact.

Re: Heritage Guitars

I personally don't care for them. I've played about 20 or so of them. I don't think they feel anything like a Gibson, but that's just me. However, they were very well made guitars.

Re: Heritage Guitars

They are, more or less, the continuation of the Kalamazoo-era Gibson
(as in, the same people doing the same thing in that same factory).

When Gibson moved out of the Kalamazoo plant the employees simply continued building those same guitars under a different brand.

Not much has changed since then (although apparently some have).

brentrocks is the forum's leading authority in Heritage guitars, he has owned more Heritages than most of us owned guitars in general :)

I played one. Comparing my 1986 Les Paul Custom to a Heritage Les Paul type (the 150), they are not the same. The Heritage has a totally different feel and neck profile. The neck feels stiffer (maybe that's better?). The body shape is slightly different, the electronics cavities have different routes. Most come with Schaller pickups which are o.k., but not the best, though Heritage does offer different pickups.

It felt and sounded like an extremely high quality and well built guitar that looks like a Les Paul, but didn't have the same feel and tone of a Les Paul. They are built better than production Gibsons, but not as good a Custom Shop or Historic Gibsons.

Re: Heritage Guitars

I have a friend who is Kookoo for CoCoPuffs over GMP guitars. I had one, didn't see what made them so much more special than anything else out there.

I suspect Heritage would be the same, but having never tried one, I can't say for sure.

Re: Heritage Guitars

I bet you've played one or two LP's in your time Evan. That's a pretty good endorsement right there.

Re: Heritage Guitars

Thanks for all your feedback! FR - super job!

I grew up in Battle Creek, about 15 miles from K-zoo and still have friends there and remember the former Gibson plant. So, guess I was getting a little nostalgic about supporting the homies.

Seasons Greetings to all!
