Hey Check out this Bassman Quick!!!!

Re: Hey Check out this Bassman Quick!!!!

Looks like the ideal Bassman head...a good one! I don't think it's ever been a silverface...the panel looks original to me. If it's really from '66 it's definately a real blackface and in great shape. You gonna buy it? Only an hour left. I still maintain that most of these need some mods to bring out the best in them for guitar use. The phase invertor circuitry is very bizarre in some of these...tho not all. Nothing that can't be tweaked to perfection though. Lew

That's what I was thinking. Iwill say this, with a few simple mods a BF Bassman can be a screamer for playing guitar through!!!

Yep. Simple stuff. Just a tweak here and there...unless the phase invertor circuit needs to completely rewired and some do! Most don't.

But if it's a silverface Fender they need to have circuitry restored to blackface style: like having the bias balance trim pot changed over to a blackface style adjustable bias so you can properly bias the output tubes.

Still, simple stuff if you can solder neatly and there are instructions for doing this stuff all over the net!

Re: Hey Check out this Bassman Quick!!!!

Here's the parts layout for the AB165 Blackface Bassman...it is the one with funny phase invertor wiring. http://www.ampwares.com/ffg/schem/bassman_ab165_layout.gif

And here's the parts layout for the AA-371 silverface with non-adjustable bias that is a balance control instead and needs to rewired for adjustable bias: http://www.ampwares.com/ffg/schem/bassman_aa371_layout.gif

And then here's the AA864 Blackface Bassman with the prefered blackface phase invertor and circuitry. IMO, this is the one to copy and rewire the other two to the same specs as: http://www.ampwares.com/ffg/schem/bassman_aa864_layout.gif

Re: Hey Check out this Bassman Quick!!!!

When I got my 68 Pro Reverb, it was a first year silverfaced (drip edge). Even though the tube chart claimed it was the blackfaced circuit of the year prior, it was the abortion silverface circuit. I modded it back easily. This bassman looks like the real deal. I'm glad I don't need it or I'd buy it. ;)
