Hey guys, ive been searching this forum for a bit and doing my research. In about october im going to be picking up a nice dsl100 head. Now im on a quest for a cab. I need the cab to be under 400 bucks, but with good speakers, quality and of course sound. So after searching this site, i spotted avatar cabs. I looked at the 4x12s they make and saw the cheapest version for 319 plus shipping. Hows the speaker selection, and which ones would i choose for a dsl100?
thanks in advance- andrew

Re: hey guys about avatar cabs?

I would do either a Celestion V30/H30 combo in a 2x12 closed back or an Emminance V12/M12 4x12. If you can scrounge together more money you could get the Celestions in 4x12 but 400 wont get you there. I've got both cabs and like both, with the Celestions sounding a bit better to my ears.

I'm in the market for speakers myself and I was just on Eminence's site and they have a Guitar Speaker Cross Reference that is really cool. Just look for your amp/cab and see what they recommend and get some ideas there. I actually accessed it through Avatars site by clicking on Red Fang.

hey again guys. i checked out the 2x12s, and for 350 you can get some good speakers, like celestion greenbacks, or vintage 30s. which ones of these would i need more? would these speakers/setup handle a dsl100 head? thanks again

Re: hey guys about avatar cabs?

I'm also looking at possibly getting a 2x12 cab from there to add to my Peavey Classic 50 2x12. If I like the sound of the celestions more than the stock speakers (and I probably will) I'll get 2 more and replace the ones in the combo. I've read good reviews.

Re: hey guys about avatar cabs?

As long as you pick the right speaker combo the 2x12 will handle it fine. Just make sure that the wattage of the speakers added up are close or over the wattage of the amp. For instance, I wouldn't get one with two g12h30 as thats only 60 watts and there is a chance that you will blow them, but a vintage 30 and g12h30 is 90 watts which is close enough to your amp to be ok(you'll loose some clean headroom). Just be sure not to dime the amp...

Re: hey guys about avatar cabs?

My opinion is get the DSL 50 (which is more than enough) and get some good speakers for the saved money. The g12h30 Vintage30 combo is very popular...

Re: hey guys about avatar cabs?

I run the 2x12 V30/H30 combo with a DSL 100 and have no problems with the speakers. It moves more than enough air to play with a drummer.
