Hey guys, have I priced these guitars too high?

I actually thought these were FAIR prices, but these are second listings with lower prices and not even a question has been sent. They are asking the same price I have BIN for a blem strat and this one is like brand new. I don't know if it's just that people are broke, like me haha, or if I've priced them too high. The Jackson is a great guitar and I've got about 8 bills into it with the improvements plus purchase price and I'd rather keep it than sell it for $350 or something like that. What do you guys think?

Sorry, but I don't see which guitars you are talking about. I don't see a download to e-bay or anything...

Re: Hey guys, have I priced these guitars too high?

Three things:

1) Look at what others have recently sold for. Are you in the ballpark?

2) Prices & buying goes up in November & December every year (Christmas), and starts to fall in January. You missed the best time to sell your guitar. people are tying to pay the bills for the gifts they bought last month. Unless you get lucky & find a "must have" buyer, for the highest price you may have to wait until the end of the year.

3) Factor in a faltering economy, volatile stock market, & millions of home foreclosures. There isn't the disposable cash that there was a year or two ago. It's a buyer's market in most industries. Many of the guys buying guitars already have a few, & some are sitting tight waiting for the economy to improve and can live with the guitars they already have, at least that's what their wives tell them.

Wow. I know I'm getting old, but I didn't think I was senile yet, lol. I'll fix that.

For #1, I believe I am.

For #2, if that's true then I played my hand oh so wrong. I waited until AFTER Christmas thinking there would be too much budgeting and present buying before and Christmas gift cash after.

For #3, that's what I was worried about.

the strat is a nice guitar indeed ... you have to figure what is the best price you could grind out of GC for a new one ... and then you have to deduct something off of that because it is not new and no 30-day return

good luck with the sale

also - there is a typo in your ad .. i think it is called 'sherwood' green, not sherwin

Some guys are going to get lucky & sell their guitars for the price they want, but some won't. Even during a good economy, I've listed a guitar & never hit the reserve, and re-listed it the next week & sold it easily. Try it another time or two, then wait & try again. Different mix of buyers every day of the year, and they keep changing their minds about what to buy next. If you can't sell it for a reasonable price, sit on it for a while.

Note: whenever possible sell before Christmas, when people still have money. Budgeting & belt-tightening comes in January. Look at retail stores: people expect to buy everything on sale. Who pays full price after the holidays?

Oh geez, lol. I just opened a Maaco auto body (hence the need for funds) and I use Sherwin Williams paint. All these "Shers" start to run together, ha ha.

I was in GC Totowa a few weeks ago and was playing a '62 hot rod, same color... manager (who I know well) offered it to me at $1400 out the door... "new".

It kinda scares me a bit when someone says they bought a guitar used, less then a year old and then the next owner flips it just a few months after that. Honesty is good, but makes me think the guitar might be a dog.

No idea on the Jackson, not my bag.

You've got a PM coming btw...

Re: Hey guys, have I priced these guitars too high?

definitely on the strat

probably a little on the dinky

Don't forget Craig's List. People on fleabay GENERALLY don't like high starting prices.

Good advice. Patience is the key...

The cure for impatience is selling for a lower price than you want...fine if you need cash immediately, but the long-range strategy will probably give you more piece of mind when you think about the deal.

Craigslist around here is something of a joke... occasionally there's a deal to be had with someone who's not a complete corn flake... but rarely. I've had way better luck with the local shop, putting stuff on consignment. They take a fair buck, but the headaches and hassles are gone.

You should take these gee'tars over to Ritchies on Rt. 46 in Rockaway...

The Strat? Really? Wow. Only got it a few months ago and you couldn't get one for less than $1200 on the bay. I only got this one for $1125 I figured because it was pickup only. I may decide to just keep them then.

Re: Hey guys, have I priced these guitars too high?

Well, yup. When I priced what the strats were getting even three weeks ago, it was more than they are now. I have one offer on the strat and if the guy comes through, I'll sell it and I'll only lose a tiny bit on shipping and auction fees.

If I had that much to spend on a high end Strat, I would probably pitch in a couple hundreds more and get it new. Thats what would keep me from buying it. Your price may be fair, but its an expensive Strat to start with.
