Reeves 12 with Power scaleing.
Single el34. I wouldt though 12 watts wouldnt have needed to be power scaled? I am guessing this amp is pure Class A at 12 watts, not the phony Class A.I know tayts jsut a circuit design, and AB can sound just as nice or nicer depending upon the circuit.
I never thougt 12 watts was powerfull enuf. I always was under the impression based on my experience that 30 watts was just about right, but actually Ive never heard a cranked 18 watt Marshall, although I owned a 12-15 watt Tweed Dlx. copy Clark amp and it just did not hit the requisite decible level for me and i got rid of it.

Single el34.

Reeves 12 is dual EL84... their HG10 is a single ended EL34.

Everything I've read, which really wasn't much aside from some glowing TGP reviews (are they ever less then that?!) says thats a great amp in an 18-watt sorta flavor, like a gained up AC15 or Lightening with impeccable old-school build quality. Reeves was importing the new Hiwatts before doing their own thing... so everything points to sound along those lines.

12-15 watts can still be pretty dang loud for power tube distortion... enough to hang with a drummer for sure, so that's the reason for power scaling. Get that grind without rattling the walls... as much. The power scaling option adds a few controls to that amp, more of a pre/post rather then a turn-it-up & rock thing.

That amp was in the running for a brief period when I was shoppin' round... but given the lack of info & examples decided not to take a $1k "gamble" on the Reeves. I spent my cash on something that I had played a handful of times & always dug... and was less money. Not such a bad thing since I still need a car. That thing being a Tiny Terror.

Go for it 'O King of Tone & tell us what its about!

It'd look swell on top of 'yer new Orange 2x12...

Re: Hey TGWIF take a look

Like Moose said the Reeves 12 uses a pair of EL84's, it's the Reeves 10 that uses a single EL34. The single EL34 Reeves is single ended it is eingle ended Class A.

Also, while we're at it...you say phony class A...just because an amp is not single ended class A doesn't mean that it's not class A.

As far as class A vs AB or whatever else in terms of tone Im not sure why you are hung up on class A sounding better, it's just not true...

Is 12 watts powerful enough to need attenuation or Power Scaling...sure it is! There are a lot of boneheads that think they need lots and lots of power and thats just not true...I have only played a few gigs in my while life where I wasn't told to turn down, I was told to turn down not too long ago with a 10 watt 1x12 Ampeg Jet! Having the Power Scaling makes the amp far more useful for a real player in real giging situations...if a player thinks they need 50 or 100 or more watts and 1 or 2 or more 4x12 cabs they are simply lying to themselves or they simply never play outside of their living room. Heck, I practice at home with my sub 20 watt amps and never really crank them, even 10 or 20 watts is too much power for playing at home!

Don Felder from the Eagles used to gig using nothing but a pair of tweed Deluxe amps he set them up in stereo and miced them and the Eagles played some HUGE places. Frank Simes did 2 tours with Don Henley just maybe 5 years ago, he used a 9 watt head and a 2x12 cab and ran a Hot Plate to attenuate the volume levels. Mike Campbell tours all over the world with Tom Petty and uses a Vox AC-30, a Deluxe Reverb and a Princeton Reverb, he never really cranks the Vox and still complains that it's too loud. There is simply no need for super loud amps any longer. Just take a lok at all the pro players that have gone down to 50 or less watts in recent years...it's just over kill.

Anyway, thanks for sharing this reeves amp with me, Im still not sure why you did but cool.
