HH Strat for Country and Southern Rock / Blues?

Hey folks, I used the search feature with no luck so... I am considering an alder / rosewood Strat using the JB or CC bridge with a Pearly Gates neck, a three way switch and split switch for both pickups. Are there any other tried and true HH combos that would be better suited for this.

Which value tone and volume pots would you recommend?

Any advice appreciated. Thanks

That combo sounds great, actually... i think you'll like the JB split along with the PGN full. Might have to try that myself...

I have an HH strat - alder/rosewood - and I play country/rock/blues.
After several iterations - I ended up with an Alnico Pro II neck/ Pearly Gates Bridge. 500K pots, and 5-way P-type megaswitch. The switch gives you [Neck/inner coils parallel/outer coils series/outer coils parallel/bridge]. 5 very usable settings - The parallel modes sound fantastic with this pickup combination in particular (I tried several other combos as well).
Versitile awesome setup.

I also tried a higher output version of this - with a pearly gates neck/custom custom bridge. It was good, but not as magical as the AP2/PG.

Just my experience...

I've had that set in my Strat - the CC and PGn. I used it with 500K pots and a .02 capacitor. The CC (and the PGn too) sounded to smooth to me and lacked treble with 250K pots.

To be honest, even with 500K pots the CC sounded pretty smooth and I wound up liking a regular Duncan Custom better. More bite.

Stayed with the PGn and Duncan Custom set with 500K pots for a couple of years.

Eventually I wanted a little more organic tone from the Custom and I changed it to a PGb Trembucker.

To me that's a great set in a Strat: PGn and PGb Trembucker with 500K pots.

Great for blues and bluesy/rock. I don't play any metal - not my thing.

Re: HH Strat for Country and Southern Rock / Blues?

I went ahead and ordered the JB Trembucker and PG neck. I thought the CC would be too smooth and lack bass in the Strat. I was afraid to get the PG for the bridge because it might not have enough gas when split in the bridge position.

Now I'm just not sure which value pots to use on a 1 vol, 1 tone setup. Both pickups will have the option of being split.

Seymour Duncan recommends 500k pots with a .05 (or .047) caps.

I recommend a paper and oil cap like Vitamin Q or Jensen for the style of music you are playing. I also recommend you switch out the mag for a UOA5 in the JB for 2 reasons.
1. It will really open the sound up and make it sing!
And 2. It will complement the tones from the neck pickup better.

The OP should try both 250K and 500K pots and see what he likes best. Seymour uses the JB in his Telecaster and I believe Evan posted that Seymour uses 250K pots with the JB...not 500K. 250K smooths out the peaky treble of the JB that some players find annoying. Only issue with that is that the 250K pots also smooth our the treble of the neck pickup and that pickup may sound better with 500K.

While not a strat guy - the PG/CC for Southern is awesome. YMMV in a start, but in an LP, it was all kinds of Allmans, Skynrd, etc...

That is the dilemma

Re: HH Strat for Country and Southern Rock / Blues?

You should be able to get around that with a 4 pole switch. Actually you could tune the load on the JB to taste if you want.

How does a Strat react to a C5 bridge? I have one of those and an extra A2 magnet.

I keep reading that the PG bridge is overly bright in the Strat bridge position??

How is the PG neck compared to Alnico Pro II in the neck position?

I may as well ask about the 59 neck and bridge compared to others too??

Thanks
