So I wanted an amp that was tonally between my stock '79 JMP and my 50w 5150III in general terms of it's voice (modern vs classic I guess you could say) and in its gain range. In enters the perfect amp for that...the Jim Root Terror.
This thing is perfect for what I wanted tonally. It falls right between the JMP and 5150III having more gain and a slightly more modern voice than the JMP yet no where near as modern or gain heavy as the 5150III. Despite Jim Root's name being on it and the music he plays some people may be bummed that's it's not quite the gain monster you think it will be. It can't touch the insanity that is CH 3 of the 5150III in terms of gain or tightness for example. Adding an OD to it though gets it damn close and real angry sounding though. Just in terms of gain level (not it's actual voice) it's closer to Ch 2 on the 5150III I guess.
I've never owned an Orange and only played through a few years ago so what I remember is fuzzy. So it's new tonal territory for me and I'm real happy I gave the little guy a shot since it filled that tonal need for something more modern with more gain than my JMP yet not as modern, saturated and gainoriffic as my 5150III.
Oh and the Terror with an OD in front plus the 5150III on Ch 3 run in stereo with my G-Major 2 in the loops of each of them is pure high gain tonal nirvana!! The aggression of the 5150III with the tighter bottom and biting top plus the more organic and mid focused voice of the boosted Terror balance out so well making for one kick ass high gain tone.
I'm absolutely loving this amp so far. That said though if you made me pick between all my amps...the 5150III is the keeper for sure! It's just more me.
Sorry I can't do any good clips guys and there's no way and iphone video will work with the volume levels I play at. I tried it once and it distorts the little iphone mic pretty bad making everything sound like crap.
