High E sounds like a Sitar Banjo

This topic shows up here and there. I thought I'd share my recent experience. My problem is solved already.

I did an adjustment to my bolt-on guitar to fix the action and the fret buzz. After finally shimming it, adjusting truss rod, adjusting height of the bridge, and the action, the fret buzz is gone but the high E string started having harmonics like a sitar or banjo. The sustain was horrible too. Playing a note or open E was the same thing.

Pressing down the string on the headstock did not eliminate the sound. So it must have been on the bridge saddle (a tune-o-matic bridge). So I got a needle file set from Harbour freight (for about $4) and I filed the groove on the bridge saddle. I also file the nut slot too. There was possible a burr or dirt. After this, it was gone and problem solved. out

Be careful filing nut slots and saddles, unless you're sure it's a burr, and you're going for the burr you know is there. If you deepen the slot or the saddle, you can make the problem a lot worse.

guitar luthier at this point, too many things to eliminate. even a simple truss adjustment or frets popping off the board because of a humidity change.......its endless.......give it to somebody else and make them guarantee their work till its finally fixed.
