High-Output Clarity Challenge!

So, I'm talking pickups 14K and above.

Can any of them really be anything near clear or articulate?

I'm thinking in particular, the Alt8, Custom (or C5 or C8), Full Shred, and Distortion.

I play a Les Paul, need something tight with good palm muting, but still having some character and chordal clarity for when I don't play heavy.

Think High on Fire. Really clear and well-defined. Then think AC/DC chord clarity. A lot of people might say you'd need two pickups for that, that it wouldn't work.

But I know you bros are geniuses like that. Whatcha think?

demon.
:smokin:

i know it's not 14K+ though; the full shred's definitely the closest of the ones you've listed. i'd look at a PATB1 as well

Re: High-Output Clarity Challenge!

I like the PATB's a lot, but I'm not sure they will fit into a LP, since they're trem spaced. I haven't tried though...if it did that would be a tight fit.

Probably the Custom 5 for what you are asking is best.

Re: High-Output Clarity Challenge!

Wiki equipment for Matt Pike sez. "First Act custom made Duomags with superwide frequency range", that might be on his 9 string. I threw that out there to see if anybody could embellish that factoid. Meanwhile, Angus, I've noticed has at times used, or been photo'd near, Bill Lawrence ( or some one slimbar thingie that looks like BL), but not as often as Gibson. ...

Re: High-Output Clarity Challenge!

Would you be interested in BOs? Actives tends to have better clarity with high gain.

Re: High-Output Clarity Challenge!

Skip the passives and head straight to actives, seriously.
I've got Blackouts in one of my 7 string axes and it retains super amounts of clarity.
EMG 81s even more so.

Re: High-Output Clarity Challenge!

Honestly I'd either go active or if you want a good metal Duncan the Distortion is untouchable. Maybe you want a P-Rail Hot? Articulate and high output but not very Metal at all sadly...

I know what your talking about but it is not a Bill Lawrence. It is a Jaydee Hooligan Pickup in both Neck and Bridge in his Custom made Jaydee SG with Lightning Bolt inlays (which has since been retried and replaced by his Gibson Custom SG with Lightning Bolt inlays) .

Re: High-Output Clarity Challenge!

Clarity has a lot to do with your amp and/or pedals. I'll 2nd the nomination for El Diablo and PATB-2. DMZ Evo sound best to me in LPs, but I still can't get with it entirely. DD has good clarity, but not real diverse, A8 JB/DD are slightly more useable for other stuff, but very metal.

Matt Pike changes equipment a lot, funny that he still sounds the same for the most part. Here is the conflicting source with the Wiki page: http://www.seymourduncan.com/artists/featured_artists/71
