Higher output Jazz neck pup?

I really like the bright snappy sound of my Jazz in the neck but I feel it's lacking volume. Can anyone recommend a neck pup with a similarly bright and clear sound but with an output to match my JB? While I'm asking I'd also be interested in a bridge pup with similar characteristics to the JB but with a touch more brightness for clean sounds.

Re: Higher output Jazz neck pup?

I would say a Full Shred neck or Screamin Demon for the neck. If you are having volume issues with the Jazz, you might just want a boost pedal or to turn your amp up a bit more, it is quite the capable pickup. That being said, you say you want a hot output bridge pickup with better cleans? Turn the volume down on your JB and it will clean up.

At the end of the say I would say use the Jazz neck, you already love it. Get a JAzz bridge or a A2P bridge to go with the Jazz neck. You will have a better volume match between the two pickups and they will have great cleans. Then, just add gain as these pickups can take all the gain you can throw at them when you need dirt.

The Jazz has been used for many years as a neck companion to the JB and matches its output just fine if you adjust the height a little.

I can get you louder that is also bright and clear but it wont be a exactly the same tone as the jazz...

You could try ceramic mags in both... they would be brighter but would also change the tone along with it.

another idea would be to go to the Dave Mustaine Live wire set. They are actually based on the JB and Jazz and are louder versions of them

Raise the Jazz.

Lower the JB.

The sentient id say, its a combo of the 59 and jazz, has a jazzy feel to it for sure, that bright sound you know?, Its meant to go with the nazgul in the bridge... so in terms of output it will be higher, I have one, its nice, compliments the pegasus (dont have nazgul, but when I tried it it was quite high output)

Re: Higher output Jazz neck pup?

I had jazz/jb in my super strat and had the exact same complaints about them. The Jazz is great but just didn't have enough to keep up the jb and the jb's cleans left much to be desired. I tried multiple pickup combinations trying to swap out each one with something different and then not liking the results. I eventually stuck the Jazz back in the neck because I really like bright and articulate neck pickups and put a screamin demon in the bridge. I have not looked back since. They work so well together and the screamin demon took care of both of your complaints. Their outputs are just where they should be and the tonality is so versatile and complimentary. The Jazz output pairs great with the demon and the demon has amazing cleans yet can still crank out massive sound. I recommend this setup

Yeah this is similar to my experience. Moving the Jazz a bit closer helps fatten up the sound and gives a smidge more output while lowering the JB reduces bass but they still feel slightly unbalanced and cutting bass isn't quite the same as increasing treble.

My perfect set would be a louder Jazz and a JB with more of the top end snap which makes the Jazz so pleasant for cleans.

Thanks to everyone for the various suggestions, I'll keep playing with heights and polepieces while I look into the pickups suggested.

Move it more, then. This only solves the volume imbalance, though.

Re: Higher output Jazz neck pup?

The Jazz is at 3/32 and the JB 4/32 but I'll do some more tweaking tonight.

If they are that close its no wonder that the JB is louder. Try dropping it down 3/16ths or more. You can even try angling it to get more high end response.

When you drop it down try playing with the poles. Raise them up and see if you can get the high response you want from the JB.

I'll experiment with dropping it lower but is 4/32 (finger on the last fret) really that close for a bridge pickup?

Not exceptionally no... but we are trying to solve your tonal issues, it only takes a screw driver and a few minutes why not try it? A quick check of the 3 guitars I have sitting near me I have one at about 3.5mm the other is at 4mm... Those measurements are close to yours.

The last one looks like this... which btw is a JB.
