Highway 1 Owners...

I have a new Highway 1 Tele in Honey blonde. Y'all know how thin and fragile the finish is right? I want to toughen it up a bit. I was thinking about throwing on several coats of poly. Would that do it?

Just kidding.... That would be like putting ketchup on a filet mignon... :smack: I'm actually thinking about taking advantage of the thin finish and doing a little bit of light relicing. It has a couple of dings on it. They're not really noticable but they wer enought to knock $200 off the price when I bought it.

I'm thinking of just doing a little sanding on the outer rim and where my forearm rests. What courseness of sandpaper should I use? Also, should I just maybe use the gray sandpaper so as not to do too much?

I would say start with something pretty fine(400-600)...that way you're not taking too much off, plus it will look more natural. Post some pics, my highway 1 is the same Yellow/blond...I'd like to see how it turns out.

you may just want to let nature take its course. Mine is wearing quite a bit after 1 year of use.

Initially, I thought I would do that; however, I just want to give it a ittle jumpo start. It would be like a Fender Closet Classic thing.

Re: Highway 1 Owners...

I saw some Closet Classic strats at the Fender booth and I wasn't impressed. Looked like they took an old metal garden rake and scrapped it across the top. Unimpressed.

Yes, a lot of those you can tell are fakes...

I want to just put a little wear on the edges and wear my forearm sits.
