hmm...two single coils in a humbucker route?

I've started designing my next project. I know I want a strat, but I can't decide if I want a blues machine or an 80's metal monster. Then I had an idea...could I fit two single coils in a pickguard humbucker route? Obviously I'd have to turn one backwards, but wouldn't it work? If so, I could have a low output SC and a stacked humbucker BOTH in the bridge position of the same guitar.

Eh?

That's why they make Humbuckers with the ability to select just one of the coils.

Rock On!

^Been there, done that. It isn't the same as a true single coil...or at least not the ones I've tried. Plus, then you're still limited to one type of pickup whereas with this you could have something for flat out speed metal and something for laid back blues. Split an SH6 and it still sounds like an SH6, just a bit thinner and more jangly.

I think Neal Schon's pricy new sig les Paul has a dimarzio blade style s/c next to a sustainer in the neck slot. So this kind of thing at least possible...

Friend of mine has two single coils in that sort of configuration, in a strat style guitar. Seems to work well.
