I know, pictures. I'm not home, but I'll get some. Anyways, a friend has been selling a lot of gear to alleviate a financial situation. I saved this one from the auction floor. It's a 1978 Rickenbacker 4001 in fireglo. This thing is gorgeous, and sustains for DAYS.

Edit: by the serial, and the RIC site, it's a 78!

WHOA! Now that is one sexy bass! I love Ric basses! Oh man, enjoy that for all of us who are jealous beyond reason! I love that color, too!

So happy for you that you had a dream come true score! I imagine your friend is happier seeing it go to someone that will appreciate it too! Never played a Ric. From the front, the neck joint looks so fragile..

They're neck-thru, so that isn't an issue. However I have heard about a tendency for truss rod issues and my former tech thought they were terrible from a repairability standpoint.

2 truss rods in a relatively thin neck is interesting. You just have to be nice to them. This one had a bad capacitor on the bridge pickup, but I don't like that bass cut tone anyway! The bridge pickup straight up is an unreal tone, even through my little practice amp.

A friend of mine has aaaa... '74? with exactly that problem. We think one of (if not both of) the truss rods are broken, and finding a good repairman to do the work in his neck of the woods ain't gonna happen.

Yeah 70s ricks are unfortunately a pain to set up. A lot of luthiers I know will either charge extra for them or flat out refuse the job. Bending that neck by hand is not fun, and since it's neck through you risk losing the bass if done wrong.

I often like the sounds that others make with them but, invariably, dislike the sounds that I get.
