i got a couple questions. i have a mex tele and i need more power out of it for distortion. so i wanted to put in a hot rail, but ppl have told me a little 59 is better. i play heavy stuff such as tool, thrice, thursday... so is a hot rail or little 59 better? also, when after i install one of those into my neck, will i lose the clean signature sound of the tele?

Re: hot rail in tele?

for those types of music id say a hot rails will work well if you need a really hot pup. if not the lil 59 might be a better. the hot rails doesnt have a great clean sound but has a thick meaty distorted tone. the lil 59 has a much nicer clean sound but still handles distortion well. both pups will change the characteristics of the tele.
youre putting this in the bridge position right?

Re: hot rail in tele?

Yes you will definitely lose the tele tone in the neck if you install a hot rails or little 59 there.

I agree with Jeremy about the hot rails (bridge) vs little 59. I think the little 59 is more versatile. I've had both in a tele. I could get plenty raspy with the little 59, but could not get a very articulate clean tone from the hot rails - not dissing the hot rails though. It's a great pickup for hard rock.

Love my hot rails for strat. My favorite distortion sound...if the Tele model is even close then it rocks :D

The Tele model is supposed to be the highest output passive pup that SD make.

I have one in my 2001 MIM Tele along with a HotRails Neck and WOW... metal all the way. I wired them up with a 5 Way Mega switch so I get inside and outside coils in parralel in pos 2 and 4, making it very versatile...

sting97pt,

I recomend it over the 'lil 59. Think of it as a DD over a '59.

Re: hot rail in tele?

I've played a Tele with a Hot Rail and it was a killer sounding guitar. The cleans were very useable and manageable and under gain it was very full and punchy sounding.

I'd give the HR for Tele some serious consideration.

Re: hot rail in tele?

I'd vote for the Quarter Pound Tele. Just a really punchy pickup. The Hot Rails will sound really good, too!
