I just picked up a 2+12 cab for my hot rod deluxe.supersonic cab 2 vintage 30's My plan was to unplug the internal speaker and use the the cab. Easier on the hot rod. But with the 2+12 pluged in it makes the amp sound like it has a blanket over it.Really muddy and i cant mix it out. any body know what could cause this.thanx

Re: Hot rod ?

I would wait for the respones from the experienced amp gurus, but I'm wondering if you have not matched the impedance(s) correctly. This might not be very healthy at all for your amp, so I'd hold off doing this until someone helps you sort it out.

Good luck on solving it soon.

I'll be following this thread with interest as I'm just getting into this stuff myself.

Re: Hot rod ?

The HRD is designed to run another 8 ohm speaker load. But NOT! with the internal speaker disconnected! Make sure your 2x12 runs at 8 ohms (i.e) 2 16 ohm speakers in parallel. If you have your owner manual? It explains how to do it. I run my HRD into my 2x12 or 1x12 all the time...Sounds fine.

Re: Hot rod ?

the supersonic 2x12 is 8 ohm, so your impedance is fine

my reccomendation is to just crank the bitch, you went from a 50 watt trebly as hell speaker in an open back cab to a 2x12 closed back 120 watt cab with real middy speakers

make sure you plugged it into the right jack though

Re: Hot rod ?

it's 8 ohms closed
Thanks
I don't know why it sounds bad if it's plugged in to the regular speaker jack. Also, I thought my HRD sounded pretty cool with both the regular speaker and a closed back extenson speaker - but I like the open-back sound more, with the HRD.
