how about a Pearly Gates set in an Epi Dot?

I find the neck pickup muddy. The bridge isn't horrible but figured I might as well swap out both pickups. I find generally it's fairly dark sounding. I've already adjusted the pickup height and it helped, but I think it could be better.

Has anyone put the PG set in one of these guitars?

If so how did they sound?

I had an Epi 335 with an A2Pro in the neck and loved it. The Pearly Gates shouldn’t be too far. Huge improvement over stock in clarity in particular. All the articulation and string clarity was there.

PGs will certainly wake up your guitar! Those would be my choice...those or Antiquities.

In the specific case of Epis, the harness is made with the most capacitive wire known to mankind, greatly affecting the the final tonal outcome. That's something to consider, specially if your Epi is older than 2010.

I have an A2Pro in the bridge of one of my SG's. Love it. That may be another consideration.

Without a doubt, the pots and wiring are coming out. I totally rewire my guitars when I swap pickups. CTS or Bournes pots and vintage style cloth covered wire. For caps, I audition whatever I have on hand until I find something I like.

I looked up the SN and it's apparently a 2005.

What do you like about the A3 over the stock one? I was thinking about doing this mod to the PGn in one of my Strats.

Re: how about a Pearly Gates set in an Epi Dot?

What p'up are you referring to? The '59 or the PG?

I would mod the '59 with any magnet but the stock.

I would mod the PGn only if the instrument has a resonant peak in the low mids.

In a PGn, the A3 will oh so slightly sharpen the highs and will lighten the mid-lows, increasing the tightiness and ending the lows' flub.

Seths, 59's, PG's or A2Ps just are not gonna miss in there.

More balance? Seth
More Cut, PG's
More bass/highs - 59's
More fat - A2P's

Your call....

More Rawk - Whole Lotta's
we can go on....
