How Are We Not Talking About This? (Part Deux)

Whenever I hear guitar synth all I can think about is Judas Priest

And it looks cool, also. :headbang:

There's something OCD about me that won't let me like a black guitar with a rosewood fretboard. Black and brown don't match dammit. I'd be so much happier if it was maple. Or ebony.

There is a lot of great guitar synth stuff out there outside of Judas Priest, though. And it is super fun to play with, as well.

BOSS's guitar was from a few years ago, though. They have since upgraded all of their guitar synths. I don't have any recent ones, but the ones I've heard sound great.

It looks like one of those things that I'd be playing WITH instead of playing...

That crossed my mind.

I've only heard YT vids, but they sounded good, within those sonic limitations.

I have a hard enough time getting a guitar sound I like. So having it sound like a saxophone wouldn't be an advantage.

Almost enough to pull me back in :-) clearly the tracking is much better than the old days and boss should know because they've got all the Roland knowledge.

The last time I had a need, I was a AV post producer who desperately needed to get in realistic MIDI tracks.. sometimes they were final and sometimes they were guide tracks for the real thing, however the Midi guitars the time just didn't cut it.

If I was still writing I would almost definitely jump on this puppy, but it's hard for me to imagine using it for much of anything else.

It would sell better I think if they put Roland on the headstock. With the Boss brand name they are marketing to guitar players, who are a backwards lot of traditionalist. I think it would be better pitched to synth players who want to break out of the ebony and ivory box.

Is it supposed to be really cheap? It really really really looks like one of those $120 Amazon guitars.

They should have at least partnered with an actual guitar company to have it retrofitted on an existing model.

They probably did. At that price range, I wouldn't be surprised if it's WMI or Fujigen, or someone reputable building it, but they just decided the "Boss" name would be more suitable.

I honestly don't doubt it plays great and is well-built. But they really skimped on the design, honestly. Especially that headstock. I'm not even being facetious. When I first saw it, the looks made me think Fesley or Donner or one of those Amazon brands.
