How Are We Not Talking About This?

This is the new Herman Li sig from PRS...a $7K hybrid of an Ibanez S-series, Maxxas, EBMM Majesty, and Parker Fly, but with cool dragon inlays and active pickups!

Complete with cutting edge micro-USB charging courtesy of Fishman.

Very interesting body carves and specs. Definitely a departure for PRS. Will be interesting to see if we get a "dumbed down" version at some point!

TIP: if you can't afford one of those, you can always hack together your own wannabe "Li" using Warmoth's new "KNS" body shape!

I'll stick with my black LP :sword:

I have actually been playing my Schecter C7 exclusively lately, which is closer to this than an LP, but. But.

It looks like a really cool guitar for someone, but it's totally not for me. I don't like Fishmans, I don't like the USB charging very much in practice, I can't really play that model of Floyd, I don't like where the knobs are, I don't dig the inlays or the overall look, and I'm only tempted by 7 strings anymore anyway. I am happy for Dragonforce dude that he has a sick new model. Love the carved detail around the jack.

It's an interesting one for sure, not so much my bag. Remember seeing the protos years ago, which had an actual Ibanez EZ trem.

The idea that it's 'hard to make' is disingenuous though - they've uploaded a cad file into their CNC, it's not

It's hideous. Just like his last signature. Bring back the Maxxas, though.

Yep. Ironically, people ask way more for decent shape originals than this PRS :D.

They could at least do a shorter 'test run' as a Genesis line model or something

Why does it look like a flesh-light?

(Edit:ok now I see, that's where the output jack is... whew!)

1. Herman is so good that we all tend to disregard him and his shreddiness. Aka YJM
2. It's pretty ugly.... The body shape that is.
3. Actually I like the thin-ness thing, I bet it's really comfortable to play.

It's cool that it's thin/light. The pickup switching looks pretty great. I like that the upper frets are easily reachable, and scalloped. Colour is nice. Neck looks like it would be decent to play. I like the pink better than the purple as far as colour, but both are cool.

It looks really well made. While it's not my cup of tea, I am impressed with the carving and overall design of the guitar. This is how custom guitars really should be - exactly made for what the artist needs, not just another strat or Les Paul in a different colour or fake damage.

I do like that it is thin, but like the thin Ibanez S series, it is most likely neck heavy. Maybe they solved that with some of the...em...body sculpting, I don't know. I don't like HSH pickups, but I dig the color. Gold is generally a hard no for me, though.
Still, with that much $, what else could I get? You'd have to be a really big fan to settle on that.

Omg, now I can't unsee the fleshlight jack socket :lmao:.

The reason they no doubt extended that upper horn is to help with the weight distribution, and having the guitar thicker in the middle. I expect the balance would be fine.

The other interesting nod to Ibanez is the Backstop-like trem setter. Maybe aside from Vai, Herman Li is like the only guy who uses these things :D. Not surprising though, since in his previous Ibanez sigs, the Edge Zero was designed with a similar-in-principle system, you could set it to allow for double stops etc.

Anyway, it's interesting to wonder where they're going with this. Usually, the really expensive guitars in the market these days tend to be aimed at boomers, who are more likely to have the money, so the kinds of guitars we see being made/sold reflect that - classic stuff associated with the old gods of guitar. Dragonforce is a band that younger folks are more likely to be into - would they be prepared/able to spend this much on this PRS? When he was with Ibanez, Herman had a Fujigen and Indo level model; the other guitarist's Iceman was always Indo. A lot of the younger Ibanez artists also tend havetheir signatures as Indo onlyto keep the price down. Perhaps then, if there's appetite for this PRS, there will be more affordable versions.

"This is kinda like the best PRS Body I've ever felt" :lmao:

That's 'cause it's a Sabre body :laugh2:

Honestly, apart from the fancy input jack (pretty sweet) That's an Ibanez Sabre ...not a PRS.

If they ever did come out w/ a more affordable model ..I'd def have my sights on it. One can never have too many Sabre's :D

But for now I'm sticking to my awesome Ibby's :bigthumb:

Same thing.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that, ha ha!

My wife said it reminds her of a men's underwear ad where they add a little somethin' to make the dog look bigger, LOL!

She's right!
I mean.... You can love your guitar.... Just don't LUV your guitar!

Ah you guys are ruining that carved jack for me. Dammit. I appreciated it as a cool woodworking thing... the one thing I actually thought was neat and interesting about this guitar... and now it's a cucumber in a sock. Thanks much.

It was an odd design decision. It got people talking about it, but I don't think it would result in sales. Design-wise, I was thinking they might have done that for better balance with the neck (more wood, heh heh) but certainly there would be a more elegant way to do that.

"More wood, heh heh" :lmao:

If you think about other thin-bodied guitars like the Ibanez S-series, they often have to use those annoying barrel jacks. This looks like a way to be able to use a regular jack, which is probably a better choice when touring and knocking your guitar around intentionally like Li does.

I just can't believe something this ugly (fancy tops and finish aside) costs so much and that so many people will snatch these up, no doubt!

What's that in your guitar sir
