How are you deleting/erasing the logos?

I have new pickups inbound, but I don’t want the SD logos. I know people have made them disappear using various methods i.e. acetone, naphtha, etc, or by abrasion i.e. steel wool which sounds like a terrible idea around magnetic pickups or super fine sandpaper or a Scotch Brite pad, etc, but wondering your methods and how successful they are.

I’m leaning toward trying a Scotch Brite pad (or these fret polishing pads I have which are equivalent to about 2000 grit sandpaper) because I’m hoping that will also knock down the gloss to a matte finish (I think matte bobbins look SO much better than gloss bobbins), but what are people doing for that?

Acetone can very easily damage the bobbins, not recommended. Sad face.

Yes, I’ve read that, but I’ve also read that it’s when people use too much, and work on the logo area for too long that it becomes a problem pretty quickly. I’m leaning toward an abrasion method rather than a solvent method regardless, to get the matte look going.

When I tried it, I did one quick pass that didn't get the logo all the way off, and then the second pass damaged the surface of the plastic. It really didn't take much to mess it up. I did it as an experiment and I have a cover, so I'm not mad about it, but it's not worth the risk if you care about the way the bobbin looks.

BTW, any pickup with a logo can be ordered without one, and vice versa. I don't mind the logos, but some people do. Some pickups, like the Alnico II Pro, don't usually come with a logo, so I either have to order a special one or get a Jazz (which comes with a logo) and swap the magnet.

Toothpaste and a cotton reg

Elbow grease

Any type of Scotch Brite sounds harsh and would scratch

I just watch Trogly and he polished the SD logo off one one of his mutts.

I can't remember which guitar ti was

If I find the video in the next 5 minutes, I'll post it

I think he used auto polish
McGuire or some such
