How Can I Tell If A Single Coil Pickup Is Reverse Wound ?

I bought an old '80's DiMarzio VS - 1 on EBAY, and wired it up into the neck position of my Strat. It sounds great , but when I flick into position 2 on my 5 way, I don't get any quack. In fact it sounds like it's losing power, i'm using this with a reverse wound Rio Grande Vintage Tallboy in the middle position. Any ideas ? THANKS IN ADVANCE Jim

Hmmm.... didn't Hendrix get the backwards sounds (Are You Experienced) with reverse wound pickups?

Your "new" pickup is out of phase with your middle pickup. You need to reverse the wires on it and if you have white to the switch and black to ground, you need to make it black to the switch and white to ground instead. Lew

Come to think of it, thats probably whats wrong with one of my Strats. I got Tallboys in the middle + neck positions and a Texas Special in the bridge, and it sounds like bollocks when you mix the middle tallboy with the Texas Special, no quack, just thin and lifeless. I learn something new on this forum every time I'm here! :-)
