How close is the RVH neck in Ernie Ball to the Air Norton???

Re: How close is the RVH neck in Ernie Ball to the Air Norton???

Do you mean EVH? The Air Norton is virtually identical to the neck pickup in the EBMM EVH.

Yes...lol
"EVH"
So... they aren't crap'n me. Both Ernie Ball Music Man and Dimarzio told me that.
It's funny tho...my Music man pickup reads 14.2k and the Air Norton is listed at at 12.58...??

That is strange. Do you have an actual EVH Sig Music Man or is it an Axis? Are the pickups 2 or 4 conductor? The EVH Sig came with 2-conductor, the Axis comes with 4-conductor. Take the pickup out of circuit (removed the wires from the switch and ground) and measure it that way.

Re: How close is the RVH neck in Ernie Ball to the Air Norton???

What would be the Seymour Duncan closest to the EBMM EVH pickups?

There really aren't any from my findings. I'd like to say the CC for the bridge but it's an A2 pickup with a different EQ than the EBMM EVH pickup. There's more low end and mids and less treble in them.

I did notice that the CC comes close, but it seems to have more bite than the DiMarzio. I really wanted to stick with Seymour's, though.

So, on the DiMarzio, would that be Tone Zone (Bridge) and Air Norton (neck)?

Yep, Ernire Ball MUSIC MAN EVH, not the Axis.
And these are the original pickups.
Weied eh??!!

Go with the Air Zone in the bridge. Trust me on this. ;) Air Norton in the neck for sure.

As long as it sounds good, who cares, right? ;)

I'm jealous ya know. That is my favorite sig guitar of all time. Every time I play one I can't put it down. Problem is, can't afford one. Wish I snagged one when I had the chance. Now they're going for $2k or more. The Axis is the same guitar though, just with the switch relocated and 4-conductor pickups (still the same ones though).

dimarzio wound the air norton at 12K instead of 14K for clarity reasons.
if you want a dead on neck pup make the 14K regular norton a air pup
you have to use the poles from a air norton to do this to a regular norton though
or any stud poles from a DMZ air bucker.
to me a agree with erik though a stock air norton is more than close enough to satisfy.
the tone zone is very close to the EVH bridge pup as well but the TZ has more bass/output so to make the TZ a EVH all you have to do is maike it have less bass and output by removing the metal screw retainer bar and and create two small air gaps with the extra space that is there after taking out the metal bar.
0.16" for the screw side and 0.32" for the stud side is perfect for the EVH bridge pup tone they sound identical,i have both so i would know:beerchug:

for those that dont want to tinker this is correct
the AZ sounds closer to eddies DMZ but if you want the exact tone a modded TZ is the way to go.
the air zone has two .042 air gaps and is very close but if you use a 0.16" screw side gap and 0.32" stud side gap it is dead on tone wise:beerchug:

Wow this is interesting...I used to own an Axis myself (amazing guitar) but I now use Ibanez because I like having my trem recessed and didn't want to mod the Axis...I LOVE their tone though. I've always kinda wanted to get back to that tone...

Bridge-Tone Zone or Air Zone
Neck-Air Norton

is the closest thing? Good to know!

True, there is that gap difference. I haven't A/B'd them to be able to listen for much of a difference. At some point I'll probably jump on a AZ/AN combo.

Not really. They said they were the closest, not the same.

Try PMing him. This isn't the type of thing that should be in a thread. And please, don't use blue text on a blue background. It's not easy to read at all. ;)

Already tried.
