Welcome to the forum.

First, you have to consider if the amp is worth the extra cost of buying/making a head cab.
Next, you need to make sure the chassis bolts line up with the cab, and all the dimensions are correct.

When connecting the combo's speaker wires to a jack, you have to figure out if it's easier to do it inside the chassis, or wiring it to a jack on a back panel. To do it the best way, you might have to add a jack to the back of the chassis, then pull the wires back inside the chassis and connect it's hot and ground to that jack.

On a combo, you'll also be limited to whatever the output ohms are. It's probably 8ohm, so your extension cab will have to be the same.

i was thinking... would i be able to pull out the gts and make a box for it? like actually make it a head? and i love the soundd but i don't have enough money for a stack so i thought this was a great idea for an alternative.

Re: How do i convert my combo?

If your looking to run a cab from it you want to consider just disconnecting your amps speaker and adding a jack to run to the cab. Then you could plug in the amps speaker in or use a cab, what ever works for you. I know I wouldnt want to go through the hassle of converting it to just a head.

Re: How do i convert my combo?

You just take a chainsaw, saw through the bottom half, nail 2x4's to the bottom and VOILA...you've got a head...

No seriously...way too much work involved...way too many other heads out there...you don't 'need' a stack anyway. Just doesn't seem like a good idea...

Re: How do i convert my combo?

If you insist, at least build a new cabinet for it, rather than cutting down the combo cab. Those projects never end well. Put the combo cab away in case you ever want to sell the amp.

To build a headshell, check out some typical heads to see how the boxes are built. Pay close attention to whether your amp chassis is a

1) sits-flat-on-the-bottom-of-the-box (Marshall)

2) hangs-upside-down-in-the-top (Fender)

-style. You'll look pretty silly if all the labels on the knobs are upside down when you're done.

Good decision...

I was going to add that these things never end well...

Re: How do i convert my combo?

And if u want to get the stack look and sound stack ur combo on a cab (i've seen many bands with VOX's stacked on marshall cabs etc) and then just plug into the cab instead of the combo speaker (or do both if u have more then dual speaker outs that can be used together).

Re: How do i convert my combo?

okay so my question has changed a bit. i now have a combo amp that runs a speaker out. so i was thinking about making a cab. a 2x12 specifically. but i have heard there are a lot of things that go into this. like the angle of the baffle board is important. and the debate of porting or not porting... i would like a closed back cab but do i have to port it? and what are some good woods to make this out of. its gonna be white with black hardware to match my amp so... and i was thinking about getting some hellatone 60's for it. any suggestions would be great thanx!

Re: How do i convert my combo?

building a cab? do you know how to make proper joints?

If YOU HAVE TO HAVE a cab for it, just get an avatar 2x12 and be happy, lol. It's not expensive and they're good cabs.
