How do I get primer off of my guitar?

Long story short, I was walking and I guess I brushed up against a wall that had been primed unknowingly, then sat down and played my guitar. Now I have a small spot of primer on the bottom of the body. It's not really noticible unless you turn it over to look but still, it seems like a sin for there to be a blemish on a Taylor. I also have no idea how long it's been there because I only noticed it when I felt it a couple of days ago.

I may be out of luck here, but I'd rather not sand it down and ruin the finish on it. I'm just hoping that someone knows a special trick to remove it.

Thanks in advance!

Depends upon the sort of primer and the sort of finishing materials. Ideally, you will be seeking a method to gently remove the blemish without damaging the original Taylor finish beneath.

Some paint types should loosen off with warm water. Other will require hydrocarbon-based solvents. The trick is not to dissolve any of your guitar finish.

On no account use abrasives.

Start with 'safer' chemicals. Do NOT soak! Damp a soft rag and rub. Water, alcohol, naptha (lighter fluid) or WD40. Any of these can/will damage a delicate finish, start in a small section, if the primer starts to move, you're in luck. Let dry and use a good guitar polish after. Good luck. Sometimes dry primer will scrape off with yer fingernail too.,

+1 on not using abrasives. If it were me I would start with GENTLE fingernail scraping as well. If it's really on there, warm water should do the trick on acrylic primer, or at least soften it enough to get it with a fingernail.

What kind of Taylor? What finish?

If you have one of the newer Taylors with the full gloss finish, water will probably take it right off. Goo Gone, or even WD-40 can work on oil-based paints. If you have a satin finish, or a NCL finish, I would be EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS.

I think your best be is to call Taylor Customer Service and follow their recommendation.
