What's the best way to emulate sitar sound how do I do that, is there a pedal for it, or certain settings on special combination of pedals ???

Re: How do I sound like sitar???

You could try retuning your guitar to EBBBBB. A down to B, D down to B, G down to B, and E down to B. Try playing at least two B strings per note. Loose strings and rattling frets bring a plain electric closer to a sitar than anything else could.

Re: How do I sound like sitar???

First of all the Sitar Swami sounds nothing like a Sitar, or anything else remotely usable if you read the reviews by people ho have used it.

Digitech's The Weapon has a sitar simulator in it. I have one it does a pretty fair job of it.

Re: How do I sound like sitar???

Thanks guys, however tuning option is not for me, I never grew and tune everything to E flat and really hate instances where sometimes I have to go drop D, I wanna completely avoid other tuning on my new endevour. I am not looking to get the closest possible simulation of sitar, kind of what Metallica did on the intro for "Where ever I may Roam." I hope its not a real sitar played by Bob Rock, that would suck. Any ideas ???

Re: How do I sound like sitar???

i've read somewhere that you can put some foreign objects either on the strings near the bridge to get some sitar-like vibe happening ... what you want is no sustain and a tiny bit of buzz ... maybe lower your action quite a bit

i use guitar synth for all my sitar noodling

good luck

Re: How do I sound like sitar???

I have heard a few sitat sims that are cool, none of them reall capture a full on sitar IMO but they are cool and close enough for playing live.

FWIW, the "Sitar" on Where ever I may Roam was a Coral Electric Sitar...you'll have to just rad up on the Coral stuff, as it's along story but just so you can see jerry Jones makes copies of both Coral Sitats these days...here is the "big' one, this is the nicer one that IMO sounds closer to a real Sitar.

But the boys in Metallica used the Coral baby Sitar, with what Coral called the Buzz Master Bridge...here is a link to the Jerry jones Version of that one...

Remember...looks funny, sounds good!

As i said in my previous post, Digitech makes a pedal called The Weapon that does a fairly good job of making your guitar sound like a sitar

Re: How do I sound like sitar???

I have seen a set of saddles that I think are from Gotoh that replaces the traditional Tele 3 barrel bridge.

+1 There are bridges available that have buzzy things under the strings, most likely for Telecasters. (Why is it this kind of stuff always gets inflicted on Tele's? When was the last time your saw a Les Paul Custom with a B-bender!?! But I digress.) It would be a cool thing to do with a cheap Tele copy, like an Agile or something.

I've seen them discussed on the Musical Instrument Makers Forum, take a look there or just do a web search.

Re: How do I sound like sitar???

Honestly, for the price of a simulator that's realistic enough, you could possibly buy a cheap sitar and play it. That's my recommendation.

Re: How do I sound like sitar???

yeah just get a normal sitar and play it. add some effects to "cover" the cheapness of the sitar and enjoy.
