How do I wire an EMG 18 volt mod?

I've done my research and I've decided that I want to run my EMG pickups on 18 volts. I'm not that great with wiring yet, and I wanted to know if anyone could explain in detail how to wire up the mod. A description for "in series" and "in parallel" would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Just wire two batteries in series, which means that you connect battery #1's positive pole together with battery #2's negative pole. Then use the remaining poles like you would do on a single battery

When connecting them in parallel, you won't get more volts, but the batteries would last twice as long. To connect them in parallel: use one battery cable for each battery, then solder together the two positive wires, and the two negative wires, and connect them as normal.
