What is this pickup good for? Metal, obviously, but what kind? What are its pros? Its cons?

The Dimebucker is a terrific pickup for most styles except maybe Lawrence Welk!

I think Robert S. put one in a Les Paul and was very happy with it. Robert's a rocker but he's not a heavy metal or grunge type player...although I'm sure he can play that way if he feels like it!

One nice thing about rails pickups like the Dimebucker is that there is no decrease in volume or sustain when you bend a note. Often there is a little change in sustain and the feel of the note with pickups with polepieces when you bend the note and bend it between polepieces. With rails, the pole piece is always right under the string no matter where the string is being bent to.

I notice that with my Bill Lawrence L-500-XL. The volume and sustain remained the same on bends, unlike traditional pole piece pickups

My personal opinion, I dont think the Dimebucker is pleasing to my ears for any type of music! It didnt agree with me what so ever!

I feel that I'm gonna get a basher LP, tune it down a step to D, and put one in the neck with a full shred in the bridge. I have no idea how it will sound - but I'm not askeered to do it. I think Dime would approve.

i recently found a Jazzer's sig guitar loaded with TWO Dbuckers... i can't imagine WHY he thinks this is good for jazz, but i'll give him the benefit of the doubt...

i think it;s quite ugly... he's not a very well-known guy... mainly a session dude. I'm not sure if he even has any solo material available...

Re: How do we feel about the Dimebucker?

I have a Dimebucker and I thought it sounded ok. I tried it in 2 different guitars and I think it is good but I like my Duncan Distortion much better. Lots more on the bottom end without mudding out and thicker in the mids and for some reason, I couldn't do pinch harmonics in all neck positions w/ the Dime but w/ the Distortion, no problem in any position.

I think he's played with Jean Luc Ponty before...

wow... another Ponty fan in the house?

that is how i was turned on to him... he also did a stint with Bryan Adams... AND wrote the soundtracks to Married with Children and Seinfeld.

Re: How do we feel about the Dimebucker?

My Dimebucker is sitting in my spare parts box. Went with an Invader and am much happier. The Dimebucker is too scooped-sounding for my liking, I had a lot of low/low mid feedback, a bit muddy, tinsel like highs, the Invader is much more in your face, just seemed to really wake things up. Great for dropped tunings.

Re: How do we feel about the Dimebucker?

All these posts show just how much we all have to try something out personally to know if we're going to like it or not. I had a Dimebucker in an Ibanez and loved it. To my ears it still had that PAF vibe (like most SD pups) but with more bite (growl). I also thought it cleaned up pretty well for a hot pup.

Re: How do we feel about the Dimebucker?

I'm a little torn on it. That thing can crunch like no other...but there's a certain quality I don't like about it when ya start playin anything other than power chords and single-note runs...slightly tinny...maybe a bit buzzy...I dunno exactly how to describe it. Still, not a bad pup.

Re: How do we feel about the Dimebucker?

i love the love the dime, but i'm not using it in standard tuning so my experience might differ greatly. very full with lots of power but without ever mudding out(used in C and b tunings).Cool pup.
