how do you carry your gear

So who here is tired of carrying amps and gear? Actually I got a pinched nerve from carrying my 60 lb combo up and down steps and into cars...

It has wheels but they can't go over big cracks and stairs

So how do you carry your gear? Do you use a dolly? Or just back breaking man power. I need some suggestions to transport my gear, I don't want to ruin my back....do you use a specific kind of dolly?

Re: how do you carry your gear

Flat cart with some wheels and a rope. If I have to go up stairs I try to two man lift whenever possible.

To me, a furniture/refrigerator dolly isn't a viable option for a 60lb combo.... simply because I have no desire to bounce my amp off every single step going up, and ever single step going down. If it's in a padded road case my opinion would be different... but now you're adding the weight of the roadcase when you need to deadlift it into your trunk so it's a trade-off.

My Traynor amp is about 40 pounds, the extension speaker cab is a little less than that, the guitar in it's gig bag is a little less than that, and my pedalboard is about as heavy as my guitar/gig bag. I like having lots of little parts so that I can make a bunch of small trips . . . I don't know how anyone can be bothered to move around halfstacks. . .

yeah, if I had a half stack it would be fine, they are light and even the cabninet has two handles on the side...I thought about putting two handles on the sides of my combo because the one handle is not in a good place to carry it down steps......

Re: how do you carry your gear

The Strat in the gig bag goes on my back, the Les Paul in a hardshell case is in my right hand and my amp is in my left hand.

...that's it.

Re: how do you carry your gear

the bassist in my band uses an old Peavey 215D cab. he ended up putting shopping cart wheels on it so it could be rolled down sidewalks (and i assure you, when that thing comes to a show, you can hear it from two blocks away). i know Peavey stuff is heavy to begin with, but this cab must weigh well over 100 lbs, and it's so awkwardly big that it's a 2-person lift to do anything with it. plus, i have the only car big enough to fit it in.

oh, well...at least it sounds good.

With me bare hands! :)

I make a few trips. My amp is around 45-50lbs. Three guitars, bag with cables, wah, footswitch and other necessities, amp stand and triple guitar stand.

I'd rather make a few small load trips and save my back than carry too much and not be able to stand up afterwards. I almost always wear a back brace when loading in and out too because my back has issues from time to time as it is.

I carry my bass in a case, and carry my head and 2x10 cab. My 2x12 cab has wheels on it so I just roll that around and carry it up stairs. It's only about 70 pounds, not too bad. I'd rather carry halfstacks and combos around all day than help carry and set up a drum set though!

this is true. it's not like you've got to make a million half-inch adjustments on the placement of your head on top of your cab.

Back Breaking man power.

Telecaster in backpack style case. Pedal bag over shoulder, Amp in right hand and maybe les paul in left hand.
I really want wheels for my amp.

Re: how do you carry your gear

I prefer using the Tuki covers on my Mesa amps due to the weight savings, but if I were touring again, I'd definitely be using road cases. The Tukis are fairly protective yet light weight.

We use hand trucks when we need to, and I have a neat little cart called a Rock 'n Roller. I'm pretty sure Musician's Friend has them. Very durable, and very versatile.

Back breaking labor through multiple trips ;)

There's no way I can grab 2 guitars, an amp head, a cabinet and a full sized, heavy pedalboard in one trip. I am happy that I have an SUV-ish type vehicle to transport everything easily though :)

Re: how do you carry your gear

guitars on my back, my 2x12 combo in both hands in front and bag with pedals and accesories on top of it. never use one hand to carry around anything heavier than 1x12 combo, it WILL fakk you up. lift with both hands, knees bended and as close to body as possible. you can be a hulk, but your vertebral discs can only take as much.

Re: how do you carry your gear

My Victoria combo is incredibly light for 40W and 2x12, so I can carry that with one hand, with a gig bag over my shoulder and an old Dell Laptop bag with my home-made pedalboard and all my accesories in my other hand.

though usually I take a second trip for a backup guitar and second head...

Re: how do you carry your gear

Make trips.

Bass or guitars/cables in one, head in another, cab in another.

I get help with the cab for going up and down stairs, my back is shot.

My 2x15 cab is 115 pounds. It's easier for me to load than my smaller, lighter cabs- tilt and push...

A friend has a Fender Vibro King. It's like a 4x10 amp that weighs around 120. Screw that crap.
