How does Paul Gilbert do this?

at the beginning, he records a riff with the Boss DD-3, and loops it, then speeds it up by adjusting the delay time and slows it back down. I have a DD-6, which is pretty much the same thing as the DD-3 only with more options. I know how to loop something and speed it up, but how does he slow it down back to its original speed? every time i try to slow something down after i speed it up with the delay time knob, i always get looped garble. is that a difference between the dd-3 and dd-6? or did paul modify it somehow?

HOLY CRAP! HE'S GOT 3 HANDS!!!! That actually explains a lot. I know you're thinking its that guy standing next to him but if you look close enough you'll see paul's 3rd arm comes out his back and around that guys shoulders (presumably to make it look like it that other guy's arms--I mean, I know I wouldn't want people knowing that I had a third arm, since then everyone would just call me an overrated 3 armed freak):)

I'm guessing it's not the DD that he speeds up its the tempo on the loop. (assuming that's possible on the loop thing.)

Just a guess, I own neither.
