How does the trading post work?

Re: How does the trading post work?

It's your choice how to ship, and that's often a major carrier (FedEx, UPS, etc). Weigh the package, and calculate the distance.

Receiving payment is also a personal choice; many turn to PayPal for security's sake.

Whatever you choose, clearly state how you ship, what the charges are, and how you accept payment. These can be deal breakers if not handled well.

Its just a place to advertise your gear - much like a newspaper.

Re: How does the trading post work?

I have done maybe 20 or 30 trades both here and on TGP, and it's important to note that the Seymour Duncan User Group Forum assumes no responsibility or involvement in transactions.

That said, I have never had a single bad transaction.

I always use PayPal, for the protection of both parties.

I always use delivery confirmation (USPS) or tracking number (FedEx, UPS) shipping for the protection of both parties.

Exercise judgment when you are trading gear. I don't usually trade with somebody who is not well established on the forum, or without "good trader" references from folks I trust.

All it takes to be a good seller or buyer is honesty. I sold a pickup to a guy recently and wasn't going to be able to ship it the day I told him initially. I wrote him an email and said
Hey --- I did not ship the JB Jr. today --- didn't have the time during post-office hours. I just wanted to let you know / keep you in the loop. I'm leaving for 2 days of fishing early tomorrow morning, so honestly, I won't be near a post office with the JB Jr. until Monday morning. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I wanted to be up-front with you about when you should expect to see it.

Have a nice weekend!

to which he replied
Thanks and enjoy your fishing trip.

All it takes is honesty honesty honesty, and you'll never go wrong.

Re: How does the trading post work?

It is usually expected that you receive payment before you ship something out. How you get payment is up to you.

Some folks have engaged in local pickups where you exchange payment and the items in person.

If you post something and accept Paypal, there will be a fee so expect to collect a little less or ask for a little more to cover this.
