how does this work?

i'm just curious as to what happens here. say i have a 4x12 and i load it with 4 celestion g12m "greenback" speakers which are rated at 25 watts. how many watts would the cab be able to take? would this be safe for my nomad at half power?
also does parallel vs. series wiring change anything in the tone?

that cab would take 100 watts, though its probably not wise to run a 100 watt full tilt at it all the time, or especially at high volume with alot of bass, since the speakers *could* get fried.

when it comes to mixing speakers of different wattage, you take the wattage of the lower rater speaker and double it.....so for example, if you pair a 30 watt speaker with a 60 watt speaker, you do not get a total of 90 watts power handling, but rather 60 watts handling, which is double what the lower rated (30 watt) speaker can take

in your case, all speakers are rated the same, so you just add up the wattage

as far the wiring scheme, i have read that there is some kind of sonic difference between parallel and series, but i have not tried it myself. But from what i know about circuits, it seems to me that parallel wiring would be safer in case one speaker was to fail, the other speaker would be able to take on the load and it would be less likely to harm your amp. in series, i would think that one speaker failing would leave your amp with no place to put its load, and damage could occur

yes, you would be running 50 watts (probably actually a little more than 50 watts) into a 100 watt cab. you only run into problems when your speakers are rated for less wattage than your amp puts out

Re: how does this work?

alright good. i'm not gonna get that cab until probably like close to 3/4's of a year from now. i could just replace the speakers in my current cab with the ones off fleabay or mf. the G12T-75's sell for about the same as the greenbacks cost right?

Re: how does this work?

A cab with 4 Greenbacks is a 100 watt cab...if you run the amp at 50 watts you should be ok...however there is still a chance you could pop a speaker or 2...just a chance.

AS for G1275's I will not get into my personal ideas but I will just tell you that if you want the G1275's you can get them new from Avatar for a killer price...better than anywhere else!

May I ask...why do you want to swiutch to G1275's?

I think he means he wants to switch the G1275s to Greenbacks...something I'd definetly do if I had that cab! I love the sound of Greenbacks.

Re: how does this work?

I have an Orange 4x12 cab that has 2 Greenbacks (25w each) and 2 McKenzie speakers (25w each) and I run my 100w Marshall JCM800 2210 amp head into it with no problens :)
