How Fast Can You Play???

Re: How Fast Can You Play???

in alternate picking I normaly get a clean 16th notes at 165bpm after a decent warm up (15 minutes)

scales , arpeggio´s and string skipping parts

John Petrucci went to 220 in his instructional tape :burnout:

Re: How Fast Can You Play???

YJM rocks, I heard a record, Voilin Record. It was 160 bpm. 16 caprice is nice piece, i can
play the first part. Soon will learn second, after i fix my guitar.
Speed is not priority, It is passion...for me.

Re: How Fast Can You Play???

I suppose about 32nd notes at about 200 bpm, sometimes peaking at 64th notes with triplets---BUT, 99% of the time I just don't incorporate it because, even when clean and accurate, there is really very little call for it. I like to know that if I can play something that fast, then I feel confident that I can tackle works at various tempos that call for a casual feel and some nice phrasing a listener can warm up to. Speed can impress so long as you don't do it that often.

haha Good one.

John Petrucci does 220 at 16ths and you can do 200 at 32nds?
Thats 400 at 16ths!

So how fast can you play? I mean 16th notes at how ever many BPM.

I don't know. I've never bothered to track myself.

I can do a good Satriani impression on a good day, though.

Re: How Fast Can You Play???

I never measured my speed but i can do any malmsteen song i've tryed so far. But there's no need for it in most situations. A nice high-speed black metal solo can be fun but shredding is more a show-off than real music. I quite like satch and vai since their music has some groove to it and soul and imo it's not that fast or hard to play, just fun.

Re: How Fast Can You Play???

For me this is abnother of those "D!ck Comparison" threads with no real merit....

That said, I´d guess about 90-100 @ 16ths

Re: How Fast Can You Play???

I can play amazingly fast.

I can also complete the act of making love in 3 seconds.

Speed ain't everything.........

Re: How Fast Can You Play???

Can you guys just get your head around the fact that we all know speed isnt everything?

Since we're all giving our $0.02 here, Yes of course, Speed is not everything. But why cant you just stick to the question, 'how fast can you play???'

Re: How Fast Can You Play???

iit has nothing to do with notes per bar
16th notes refers to the division of the beat.
16th notes are just semi-quavers...

Re: How Fast Can You Play???

I'm confused as to what 16th notes are . . . do you mean you set the metronome at say 100 BPM, and then you are playing 16 notes in each beat? So like 26.6 notes per second? Cause I have trouble pushing much past four notes per beat at 110-120 BPM . . .

Re: How Fast Can You Play???

No, 16th notes with a metronome referes to playing 4 notes per beat of the metronome.

So you are playing 16th notes at 110 to 120BPM, if that helps you.

As for me, im not too fast. I've only been playing about a year and a half, and I dont want to develope any bad habbits. Right now I can do a regular scale around 110BPM and chromatics closer to 125.
