How long to wait for a custom color Duncan humbucker (production floor custom)

How long should this take?

To be more specific....if I were to order a Custom 5 Trembucker....in a particular color....oh say I wanted it in double creme..... with a cover on it of course....and I ordered this from a Duncan dealer (I would have to since this really wouldn't be a custom order per say...it would be a production floor custom as they call it).

I wouldn't expect this to take too long, right?

I've been waiting for one of these since March.

I ordered from a very reputable dealer (one that I believe is on this forum).

I just have no idea what the hold up could be.

Anyone have a similar experience?

I've had exactly the opposite experience. It took less than 4 weeks from the day I ordered them (with covers, if you catch my drift).

WOW this is freaky i'm sinking in the same boat as you right now. i ordered a production floor custom double creme C5 trembucker somewhere around 3 months ago and there is still no sign of it and hardly any response when the dealer asks. i 1000% know it's not the dealer since i've delt with him in the past TONS of times and he's a great guy and fellow forum bro!!

so, what's going on SD guys? i've ordered 6+ production floor customs in the past and they have NEVER taken this long so this is real shocking.

I'd have a guess if I knew who the dealer was. Almost every SD humbucker I own is "double cream", and I've never had to wait that long.

Jeff, it's not the dealers at all, we ordered the same pickups (odd lol) but from two different very reputable forum member dealers and we both know it's not the dealers fault at all.

i have had around 6 or so double creme shop floor customs i've ordered from this same dealer and i've NEVER had a delay like this 3 months i've been waiting.

now i'm never one to bitch like this on a forum but i've been here for many years and thousands and thousands of posts and this is getting a bit crazy now with this wait time so i think i can poke them with a stick a bit since e-mails from the dealer direct to duncan don't do much good. don't get me wrong i'm not overly pissed here just starting to get a bit upset since no clear answer has been given as to why there has been this MASSIVE delay on such a simple order that i ave placed many times before.

Have you tried calling customer service @ Seymour Duncan yourself? Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I had a set of floor shop customs made from the web contest I won here a few months back (Thanks again Seymour, Evan and the entire Seymour Duncan crew). Initially I ordered it through MJ, and then finalized it with Scott. Everything was handled professionally, and I did get a little impatient after week 4 or 5 but Scott let me onto a little secret, which probably isn't much of a secret, but the wait times for floor shop customs can vary depending on the workload for normal production models, until a batch of "XX" numbers come through for double cremes or whatever floor shop custom that is being ordered, they probably sit in a que'ed state, until there is a large enough batch for MJ or whomever to work on a set number (2 dozen IIRC) of pickups.

I ordered basically a Duncan Distortion neck & bridge both in reverse zebra with 12 adjustable screws. With the difference being the screws, I figured I'd be waiting a lot longer than I did. Happily they came sooner than I thought, and worked out great.

Try calling and hopefully they can give a better answer, maybe there is a shortage of creme bobbins? hehe wasn't that the reaqson Gibson used white bobbins in the first place (Shortage of black bobbins) to keep the production running during a shortage?

Lew called me today....he has my pickup in stock finally & will be shipping it to me.

I ordered it on March 22nd......what a wait.

Mike....maybe yours is on the way.

A buddy of mine (who's also a member here: MrHeavyMetal) ordered a Duncan Custom with a nickel cover on it a couple of years ago. I think it took him like 4-5 months to get it. I don't know what the deal with that was.

Hang on guys---nothing takes 3-months unless there is a problem. Who did you order it from? It is always possible that the was a communication problem between us and the dealer. If anything takes that long, it means that it did not actually get put on order for some reason. Maybe the dealer thought they had sent us the order. Maybe we goofed, and it did not make it into the system. There are ways that it can certainly happen (and it really sucks if you are the one it happened to). Let me know who the dealer is, and when the order was placed, and I'll check on it for you, and light a fire under it if necessary.
