How many people are playing on guitars that aren't setup properly?

No. Mine's on set ups. I found it a few years ago in a Barnes & Noble: "How to make your electric guitar play great."

Ah yes that one. I've never looked at it - the book I have seems to cover all my needs very well but now you've reminded me that the other one exists so I'm curious again, haha.

I take all my guitars in once a year to have them set up. I prefer low action he does a complete set up, when I get them back they are in great shape. My guitars are played every day and I am a firm believer in keeping them in good playing order. I am one of those guy's that looks after my equipment so I don't mind spending $155 a year on my axes. I don't care to learn to do it myself, My guitars get a workout yet still look new and play like new.;)

I have a ton of guitars that are not "setup". When you have a large stable there is always something that needs a tweak. Right now it is my acoustic I have an ever so slight back bow that needs the slightest truss tweak. That being said if anyone played any of my axes they would be playing a well maintained guitar. Typically I will have a maintenance day when I run through the 5 or 6 worst offenders and do my tweaks.

I only go over them if they go out of whack.
Or if I do some modifications to them.

I am not very fussy over them anyways, both my Ibanez guitars have a fairly high action, I don't really like low action much.
A happy medium where they stay in tune when played, and you still can get the strings.
My acoustics probally have the lowest action....I would like them a tad higher, but I cannot really be bothered right now, they are clean when they play so it is no problem, slide is alittle annoying on the steelstring.
But I'll get around it someday.

My Tele is highaction, as I really like digging into it.

All 7 of my guitars have been set up, at least once since I bought them. Some get played more than others which require more frequent setting up. Before I'd use to make sure my main electrics were set up annually but I kinda stopped doing it recently. Now if I have an important recording session I'll go and have it looked over. most of the time its in tip-top condition anyway so a few quid could saved. I too like a low-action.
